Question:
I am so frustrated. I have been having strange symptoms for a year now - and doctors have all of these answers, none of them accurate. I get a split in my skin and its from moisture, I am red and irratated and it must be yeast, but its not, the culture is negative for yeast. I feel swollen, they do not see it. I explain a horrible burning sensation, just in one spot around my clitoris, change my soap. But NO, we cant give you a test for herpes because if you had it you would know it. If you had it you would have painful lesions. We do not see blisters, so there is no reason do do a blood test. I do not understand how doctors are so against the information on the internet - they somehow think everyone shows classic symptoms. So who do you believe?
I was thinking back to when this burning started, I looked, kinda pulled my skin back, and on my clit were TINY white marks. They were not fluid filled, and just went away one day. I assumed I always had white there because I had never really looked before. When I went to the doc while it happend a second time, I cannot remember if the white marks were there at that point, she said I didn't look irratated. It burned like a urinary track infection, but not when I peed. Actually water and pee felt soothing to the burning, almost intense tingling that felt like burning. I had a blood test 6 months later and it was negative - BUT - I did not trust my primary care to do the most accurate test and when I asked if the results came back in a range they said no, it just says herpes simplex negative. How do I put faith in that?
Today I called planned parenthood and get this - They are in the process of recalling the herpes tests because of a high rate of false positives. So now what - false neg. was one thing, but false pos. - What the fuck do I do with that. My doc said when the irratation shows again come back and relax til then. Yeah, thats exactly how I feel, relaxed, sure. I am just so mad.

Yea the first time I went my doctor told me it was chylamdia, then I wentback a week later and another doctor said I had jock itch.....I never developed any of the classic symptoms........ false positive? how is that possible? My doctor said he finally tested me for HSV 2 for early and late anitbodies and I had early ones meaning I had the disease.....right? Well that's what he said. Could any of this be confused with HSV 1? they don't give you all the info and let you pretty much deal with it on your own..... now im a nervous wreck with some meds to help stop the outbreak. Great........no more dating, no more anything........life seems to be over doesn't it.........

I'm not sure what they meant about false positives - maybe if you have type 1 its showing that you have both or vice versa? I find it hard to believe that if you dont have either one they somehow detect it anyway. Who knows. I am still repeating the blood work today, I'm so scared, and so sad, because I have a good idea that it wouldnt be anything else. Similar symptoms, and I have changed soaps, only where cotton underwear - blah blah. I'm sad.

I know how you feel I just knew I had it and there was nothing I could do. I can't stop thinking about it, I can't stop thinking how my life is over. I don't know how I will ever date again or even tell the person I am dating now.........I'm right there with you. I'm sad too, very sad. We'll figure it out somehow........we will I swear.

Yeah doctors are generally morons abotu herpes. As long as its been around you think they would have more information and know how to go about detecting it better than they do. I have to tell ya, from the people i've ran into here and on other boards, there are no "classic" symptoms. Herpes effects each persons body differently, and each persons outbreaks can be different.
You talk about a cut in the skin. Some people get "cuts"..lesions. Some get bumps, some get blisters. I would go to an std clinic. Not your family doctor. The people at std clinics are trained to deal in std's and know what to test for and what to look for.

Today I went to a new doc, actually a midwife - she was very kind and attentive. We talked about all of the symptoms - I kinda played dumb about being convinced its herpes to see what she would say. She said she thinks there is a good chance its yeast on the outside causing the burning - thats why the cultures taken inside come back neg. She also said with the amount of stress and severe anxiety I have that if it was something like herpes the chance of not having a bad outbreak is pretty slim. This all helped, kind of - but I still cannot get it out of my head. I got the herpeselect IgM and IgG test done, I'm scared - but what can I do? The only thing I have on my side right now is no "classic" symptoms, and a neg blood test done in march, but It wasnt type specific or herpeselect - who knows how accurate it was. Heres hoping. Lasmom once said "Don't Rent Trouble" - I'm trying not to. What ever happend to Lasmom anyway?

Test results are in - negative!

HSV 1 - IgG - .08
HSV 2 - IgG - .04

The IgM hasn't come back yet but I havent had sex for about 6 months so I do not think that has much chance of being pos - also combined with the neg. in march I feel pretty good. She said try prep. H on the anal irratation - not for hemmroids but it could help heal the cracks in my skin. She also said come back in a month if I am not better and we will discuss diet, ect.

Answer:
the tests just detect antibodies created as an immuno-respones to the virus not actual virus itself. The concentration in the blood has to be above a certain concentration to be considred positive, if I Understand correctly.
