Herpes Type 2 and Diabetes Type 1 ( Insulin Dependant)

Question:
 Hi everyone - so glad you're there for some support. My boyfriend has extremely severe type 2 Herpes ( genital) only on his lips (never anywhere else). He went to a doctor for treatment but was told he would have to have the HSV 2 verified by a swab before he could be prescribed treatment ( Australian law). This meant he had to let the outbreak progress until he had an enormous blister that took up almost his whole top lip- he was in agony. Finally they took the swab and confirmed HSV2 and gave him valcyclovir. Within 12 mths he was then diagnosed with severe Diabetes Type 1 ( insulin dependant). The doctor suggested that the shock of such a severe infection could have weakened his immune system to the extent his pancreas had been damaged and he could no longer produce insulin. Has anyone else heard of anything similiar??? It gets worse. I now have the virus ( lips only too). I'd love to get married and have a baby but I'm scared of a vicious outbreak like this causing birth defects. Any advice???? Sorry for the LONG question

Answer:
Hey hopeful - that was not a long question at all...

I replied to the "baby" question under parenthood -

As for your boyfriend - never heard of that - amazing. I'm so sorry about that. All I can say is you guys will now be forced into a healthy lifestyle huh? Well, I hope someone has info for you on that - new one on me.

Take care of each other - I hope all works out for you guys...
