I posted a message about herpes on a message board one day and said that I have herpes.It was a general sort of message board.I also mentioned to a guy on a dating site that I have herpes.We chatted a bit and I got the feeling all he wanted was sex form me...and I'm not into that.So it's kind of a test to see how they react.Anyway he reactyed the way I thought he would!

Basicly both times I was called a dirty whore and a slut!It makes me sick to hear people say that.Iknow that having an STD doesn't make me a bad person or anything nasty.I find that only the uneduated losers have this attitude about people with STD's.

I know that I'm a good person and I'm sure most people that have herpes are pretty good people too.It only takes one time to get an STD right!

You know....it really sucks but there is a stigma about people with herpes or any STD: that they're dirty, slutty...etc. And it's not fair because it's absolutely not true. In my case, I've had sexual relations with only one person and ended up with it. I only decide to tell people that I know I can trust because I cannot stand being judged about something that the other person probably doesn't know the first thing about. I am lucky to have a handful of people in my life who I can turn to for support and I think that's the most important thing. I also think that people say things about herpes inflicted individuals because they're scared. This disease is incredibly common...I believe approximately 1 and 5 people have it and probably don't even know it or refuse to acknowlege it.

More like 1 in FOUR people have Herpes. And most people think cold sores are just...cold sores! they do not realize that it is HERPES!!!! They are delusional!

There is definitely a stigma attached to herpes. It IS a nasty little disease, but there are WORSE ones. People need to be better educated. And you can be the safest of safe sex practioners and it don't mean a damn thing where the herps is concerned, so.....

who KNOWS how many people really have it!

Yeah. I probably had the same opinion until I got it! I thought only people who sleep around get it. But, it's so easy to get, and everyone makes mistakes or sleeps with people they trust. I posted on a in vitro board, and I just got several "sorry, I have NO idea what to tell you" responses. Yet, over 100 had viewed my post. You KNOW someone on that board has it, too, but they were all so belittling. Ugh!
