can you get the cold sore type of herpes on your genitals? and say if you touched your cold sore and then took a pee could you get it on yourself? also how can you tell the diff between the hsv-1 and hsv-2 when it on your face? yes, you can get the "cold sore type" on your genitals. hsv 1 is usually what causes oral herpes. however, if you have an OB or are asymptomatic at the time, and touch your mouth then your genitals, you can transfer the virus down there. if you have hsv 1 and have it on your genitals, it most likely will either rarely reoccur or never reoccur on your genitals. in your mouth, it will reoccur, once every two years on average (as you can see, hsv 1 is the more preferable form of herpes to have). hsv 1 and hsv 2 have "prefered places" that they like to reoccur, or are the strongest. hsv 1 usually reoccurs most often in the mouth; hsv 2 usually reoccurs most often on the genitals. if you have hsv 2 on your face....i don't know what to tell you. i have hsv 1. and, of course, i'm not a doctor. all of this is just stuff i've read. hope this helps. good luck!
