dating - the unknown

Question:
I have genital herpes, have been on suppressive therapy for 2 years and am doing very well. I met someone I am interested in. I noticed he gets cold sores on his lip. I wonder... does that mean he has herpes as well Do I really need to tell him I have genital herpes if he is showing signs of having the cold sore type already? If you aleady have oral herpes does that mean you carry the virsu already thus you cannot get genital herpes - or maybe he already has them? I'm embarassed to say anything if I don't have to.

Answer:
i know that a lot of cold sores are actually HSV 1. HSV 2 is genital, and you can transmit them to each other back and forth if you don't use care with your disease. you can transmit it to him during sex, then he to you kissing, then back to him during foreplay. if either of you are experiencing symptoms, you should use the uttmost care at this point until you are fully healed. it does help for you both to be honest with each other to use care with each other but both are manageable and treatable as well. i have personally used famvir and valtrex and they work, and i'm currently thinking of trying choraphor. the trick to this issue i've found is being completely honest with your partner as quickly as possible, because it shows you want to establish trust, and yes it puts you out there vulnerable, but love makes you vulnerable too. use care whenever you have it to not touch it at all and use disinfectant soap should you touch it immediately. otherwise you can accidentally transmit it to new areas on yourself even. learn as much as you can about it often as new treatments come out and new statistics. encourage your partners to as well.

Answer:
It sounds like your friend is infected with HSV-1.... Not two... HSV rarly occurs on the face although there are many documented cases every year where HSV2 does infect the face.... If you are infected with HSV2 and he is infected with HSV1 you can give them to each other... So you could end up infected with both HSV1 & 2.... Keep in mind you both have to be shedding... I would recommend that you use caution just like amby told you.... Remember condoms won't stop infection if you guys are actively shedding the virus.... Also keep in mind that 50 - 80% of the general public is infected with HSV 1 the virus that causes cold sores.... So you probably already have it...

Good luck

Rich
