i have a girlfriend, who contracted type 1 herpes from her then boyfriend when he went down on her when he had a coldsore. a couple of days later she broke out. she went to the hospital and they took a culture and told her she had type 1 herpes. that was 4 years ago and since that inital herpes outbreak below the belt she has had no outbreaks. she recently went to the doctor and got blood tested again. the results were negative even though she has had cold sores on her mouth since she was young ( but hasnt broken out in years) anyways the doctor she went to told her she no longer had type 1 herpes!!!! OMG!!! where did this magical cure come from? the doctor told her she would stake her job on it that she didnt have it below the belt anymore, and if she ever broke out it would only be on her mouth. the doctor then told her that she couldnt pass it to anyone else. am i missing something here? as far as i know the herpes virus wont just "disappear" it may not reactivate for a certain amount of time but there is always a chance that she can pass it on. she still has it! i cant believe that a doctor told her this!

the doctor is a idiot, cause after a certain period of time, your body gets rid of the antibodies it produced to "kill" the virus during the outbreak. once they are gone, the virus isnt able to be detected by the tests. (trust me i know) unless you gf has a outbreak, and her body produces the antibodies, then she will never get a positive test result, unless its the western blot.

the doctor is a idiot, your gf, still has genial herpes, and still has oral.

also theres always a chance you can spread it. be carefull

yeah thats what i told her, because she is dating somebody new. I have been reading a wonderful book "the truth about herpes" by Stephen L. Sacks MD, and it goes into detail about everything. she hasnt told him anything and i wanted to warn her that she could obviously spread it to him and that she should tell him. thats when she told me the story. she also told me she got a second opinion from another doctor. she is in major denial. eventually she came straight out and told me she believed the doctors and she didnt want me to ruin her day!
