herpes was a topic in class today
Question: so, we were talking about E.D and how they made the problem look better to the people by not saying Erectile Dysfunction, and just calling it E.D. then the girl sitting next to me screams out, LIKE those genital herpes commercials for valtrex, with people saying how happy they are - cause having herpes is life long like aids, and those people cant be happy. so i was shocked a bit, im sitting there going damn, i was pretty content until you just said that. but low and behold the professor, and the class promptly put her in her place that just cause you have a problem, doesnt mean your unhappy for the rest of your life. then the teacher started talking about shedding, and i had to put him in his place lol, he said shedding was like "scales” kind of like what snakes do, so i had to make it clear that people with herpes, are not snakes, and if you are shedding, no one, even yourself knows its happening cause its on a molecular level. so i think i just gave away that i have herpes in class, but people didnt seem to mind, in fact they kept asking me questions about what the difference between shedding and a outbreak is. and how they had never heard of any of this before (given they are in there 25- 30 age range) i just told them that sex ed isnt that informative. Answer: Bravo for bringing some reality to your classroom! If you saved one person by possibly outting yourself it would be worth it. I wish there was more accurate information given to the general public. That's when the stigma could begin to change ..... and people might start believing it could happen to them as well...and only then know how to prevent it! Answer: Waxedwrong - You are truly amazing. I am so very proud of you. I am usually the one to speak up if no one has it right. I usually have a disclaimer that my sister is a nurse blah blah blah . . . and really the stories she told about nursing school would crack you up. What you did by speaking up will definitely help others. The teacher needs to have her information right or she's creating a group of people who will spread her misinformation and hurt innocent people who are trying to get help. Answer: Education is so key. You probably helped at least one person not get this virus today. Bravo :) Answer: Nice job WW. If there were more people like you out there, there'd be less herpes. Maybe you just started an "educate others" campaign. Maybe a new forum called "Educating others" where we post what we did to spread herpes knowledge... Answer: Nice job WW. I'd be interested in how people have educated others...and the reponses they'd received. Spreading the knowledge will prevent spreading the disease! Answer: thats a good idea... maybe the support people here might add a area for that. Answer: yay! Just lovely :D Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
