herpes travel restrictions???
Question: Hi. I've had the herp for about 4 years now. Really it's not too much worse than having zits, except for the contagious part. I've been studying Chinese with the intention of studying abroad. Recently I saw that part of their restrictions for getting a student visa include a bunch of health issues, including one that restricts people with "venereal disease." This was listed separately from HIV. WTF. Has anyone tried traveling and been denied access because of this disease? Or, has anyone traveled and had no problems? I know this is kind of an out-there question, but I NEED to know the answer and I don't know who to ask. Answer: Wow, I have traveled the world wide, and while I know some countries have issues with people that have HIV traveling into their country (just because of the rapidfire spread) I have never heard of people with Veneral disease needing to disclose anything. So I just don't know. And how would THEY know? I would suggest that if you DO go to China, you abstain from any/all sexual encounters, jsut to be safe. But this is something I am unfamiliar with. I have traveled places since contracting herpes and this issue has never come up. Wow. Whatever you find out, let us know. If I come up with anything, I will do the same! Answer: i doubt its going to stop you. having herpes is completly different then say tb. but you might want to go in or call and ask, you dont want to end up in one of those movies of chinese jails.... bad stuff. also i find it kind of hypocritical of them to say that, they are like up there in terms of veneral disease as the number of disease has practically tripled in only 10 years, and its perfectly fine for their entire fam, to jump ship and move around the world with no health checks. not to forget the sex industry- everyone knows if you want cheap sex- go to china. http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/2614100b.html Answer: Actually, while China is up to their ears in other viruses and influenzas (think of SARS, Bird Flu, other influenzas) due to the sheer mass of people overpopulating that country and yes, they do have veneral disease, China is not the country running rampant with hiv and STDS. That, unfortunately, is in Southeast Asia. Malaysia/Indonesia has a really HUGE problem with HIV (as well as other STDS, there is stuff there that normal antibiotics are unable to treat. New forms of gonnorhea that have mutated and are RESISTENT to antibiotics. Scary, eh? The Sex Industry in Asia is predominately in places like Vietnam and Thailand/Bangkok. (southeast asia). Not in China. China is stilla communist country and again, while sex trades do operate there, like anywhere it is on a much smaller and quieter scale. HIV is also rampant in Africa and India as well (as we should all know...one has to only turn on the news to know this. ) That is why I say it MIGHT be an issue going into china. Contact our consulate or the chinese consulate asap to get all the information you need. Answer: if you wanted to travel there on your own I think having h would not matter...no one would know........but since it is a student visa there may in fact be legitimate rules about it........unfair and as crappy as it is........and I am sure they require a physical or proof or something about you being free from vd.......so you really need to check into it. It really stinks but it is a real possibility that they do not allow people traveling there under student visas to have vd. Ive actually heard of something similar to that once before but didnt pay much attention at the time cuz I didnt have this yet. Ive travelled a lot of places but always independently and not on student visas or anything and its never been an issue but since it is a lengthy and detailed process via student visa it is very possible it is in fact true. just check into it. Id love to know as well. Answer: I don't have any information to offer--(although I do think its an interesting question and would like to know myself)--but I just wanted to point something out: THE HERP The best term by far. In fact I think we should stop saying herpes or H and just start talking about the herp. "The herp is getting me down" "Ah man, don't let the herp get you down!" "My girlfriend gave me the herp" "Well you're not going to keep the herp to yourself are you?" "Ever since I got the herp I haven't been going out much" "What? Look, theres one thing you gotta know about the herp, and thats that the herp is the Shizznit" Perhaps if you contacted the embassy and told them that you had the herp, not only would they not care, but they'd set you up with a travel package.
