Question:
I'm usually a happy person, until I get cold sores, Ive had them my whole life. It's one thing just getting them, but theyve spread before once even to my nose, and now around my lips and they leave marks, I can't stand it. It has had such a negative impact on my life, sometimes I wish i had genital herpes instead. I don't see what these herpes want, what do they get out of doing this to us?

Anyway I just lose confidence when I get them and lost all motivation in life. I think deep down we're all primal and want the same things, so when you feel like you can't get them anymore it hurts...a lot. I plan on going to law school in a couple years, took the Lsats and everything but when I get herpes and it leaves marks all over my mouth, I just think what's the point anymore, I won't be happy so why should I try to achieve so much in life. Like everyone else I am soo shallow about myself, and really get affected about these cold sores, but I really don't judge the way other people look much at all, if only I could look at myself from someone elses perspective it probably wouldn't be so bad. I don't know well see what happens I guess. Maybe god wants me to be depressed, if there is one. I live in Manhattan by the way wheres everyone else from??

trust me, i am the same way. i think we should both think postive, there are worst things in life. And for sure u dont want genital herpes im terrified of getting genital herpes.

tothefuture - she's just a kid, she has coldsores probably from mom or dad and we should cut her some slack. She's trying to learn how to deal with this and how to prevent getting other stuff.

myproblemshelp - it is true that getting genital herpes sucks and I'm sure you don't want to get it but there are folks on here who are very sensitive about their infections.

No one deserves herpes and no one asked to get it and we'd all rather we didn't but the only way to prevent getting it genitally is to not engage in oral or genital sex with someone who has coldsores or genital herpes. You have coldsores and if you kiss someone or perform oral sex on them you can give them herpes.

I think it's true to say that we're ALL sensitive about the virus hence the reason we're on here! I think some of the recent posts on here demonstrate that!

I was cutting her some slack - my response, I thought, was mild.

At 17, if I'd been a tad insensitive, then I would have wanted it pointing out.

myproblemshelp - I suggest you get mom or dad to get you some abreva or novitra which are a little more effective than carmex and use them to control the coldsores and try to just have fun being yourself.

I'd also avoid getting a sunburn on your lip which could cause an ob. and of course, don't make out with anyone if you have one or just got over one.

there's no reason to stop yourself from having fun with your friends. you can worry about coldsores but it won't stop them it will only stop you from having a good time.

Put your head up high, put a smile on your pretty face and enjoy being young. It is over way too fast and I'd hate to hear you let a coldsore stop you. How you feel about yourself is the only thing that matters and you are a wonderful girl. If you show confidence and a free happy spirit that is how others will see you too.
