Is herpes spread easily???

Question:
What do you think? Is it spread easily?

The reason I ask this is because I am unaware of "the guy" 's std history. He swore that he did not have anything, but he gave me herpes. I am worried about HIV. If it depends on how strong the immune system is, well, I guess mine isn't too strong if I contracted it after ONE encounter...

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
How many exposures did it take you to get it?

Answer:
Does anyone have any input???

Answer:
Well, yes, it's spread easily. It's also dependent on several factors... how contagious he was at the time (in an ob, shedding, etc.), and how susceptible you were at the time (lowered immune system function due to some other health issue, poor diet, etc.). Some people get it after the first exposure (common) and some people take years to get it from their partner because they take precautions, like abstaining from contact during obviously contagious times and using protection.

What you're asking is really an impossible question to answer accurately because it differs from person to person. There's just no generic answer that applies to everyone. If you're concerned about HIV, get a test done and set your mind to rest.

It could be that he didn't realize he had herpes because he never had any symptoms. Some people don't. Sorry I can't answer your question more definitively, but I hope this helps a little.

Answer:
writer-- thanks for your reply.
I've gotten HIV testing.. it's just that I've read that your result is NOT conclusive until 12-13 weeks. I got tested @ 2 weeks and 6 weeks --both negative. I'm going to get another test tomorrow, which will put me @ the 9week mark. I hope it's negative too.

I guess what I really want to know is-- Is it COMMON to contract herpes from a single exposure????

Answer:
some people do catch it the very first time they are exposed... read the forums here... some got it the very first time they had sex:-(.

as for statistics i don't know of any, but it's kinda like asking can you get pregnant from a single sexual experience. if the conditions are right, the answer is yes...

Answer:
I was just wondering if it were common to get it from ONE exposure.... I KNOW it's possible to get it from single exposure (I did) and I've read some posts that say they got it from one exposure.

Is it a STRONG virus? I know HIV can't survive in O2 and is not likely to be spread from oral, unlike herpes.

I suppose I am still in denial..this is VERY new to me..

Answer:
It didn't take me very many encounters to get it. Think about how many people are infected with HSV and clearly it's transmitted relatively easily when the skin contact is there...

It could be your immune system - but this does not mean you are immunocompromised. There could be many other reasons you were susceptible. Did you know that it is easier for women to catch it because of lots of delicate tissue down there compared to guys? Also, even your hormonal cycle can make you more susceptible (the time of the month when your progesterone is highest... a little before your cycle will start, you are most susceptible).

BTW, the guy who gave this to you might have really been clueless about having herp. A lot of people don't recognize their symptoms or don't have symptoms at all, and, as it the case with most STDs, symptoms tend to be worse in women compared to men (altho there are of course exceptions).

Answer:
I really don't believe he was clueless in knowing. I asked him to take std tests, he agreed to do so, and then LIED about it. I was about to have my cycle when it happened. I am unsure if he ejaculated inside of me or not.

I am just afraid that if he gave me herpes, he could also have HIV. He did make me bleed during the intercourse.

I am going in tomorrow for a 9 week test. I know that's not conclusive.. but I can NOT relax.

Thanks for your reply. =)
