Question:
How come so many of you think God is punishing you?

Thats a very sad statement on your religion. Im not a Christian in the orthodox sense of the word, but I do beleive that if there's a god out there, he's a loving god - and he's certainly not interested on your sex life!

This guilt complex is one of the reasons that made me abandon organised religion. How it can happen to a 16 year old virgin, but not to a guy cheating on his wife, mistress AND boyfriend etc just shows it's not a punishment. It just happened. And you can live with it. And you CAN still enjoy good, wholesome, slutty sex! (Again, the amount of women I've seen describe themselves, or friends as sluts is disgusting. I feel every ounce of empowerment we might have gained as mature sexual beings being thrown out the window when you say that. Having an STI does not a slut make!)

And I agree...why is it always such a VENGEFUL GOD....?? Don't you think God has bigger issues than our aching vaginas, penises and mouths???? GOD or the DEVIL didn't mastermind herpes...MAN did.....Somewhere along mans journey here on Earth, he screwed something he wasn't suppose to, and VOILA...herpes. (just as syphllis comes from sheep and HIV comes from primates.). Perhaps if people would just stop sticking their genitals where they don't belong, we would have such ailments.

But yeah, I don't think GOD is punishing us for having sex.....maybe for creating Disco though..... ;-)

That is funny as hell though! lol I am going to remember that line and maybe use it one day as my own! :p

On another note, there are examples in the Bible when God uses disease to punish people. There is also I think at least two examples where Satan inflicts people with disease. There are also examples in the Bible where people are born diseased or improperly formed by no fault of their own and are innocent. Also, I think the Tanach/Old Testament has a statement in one of the prophets where it is stated that the sins of one generation can effect the next. I think this is applicable to diseases such as syphilis, which can even be passed on to the 3rd generation and was before the advent of antibiotic therapy..

So if someone professes to believe in these texts as inspired by God, then one would have to believe what the God-inspired letters contain. Makes sense right? lol So in that case, Christians and Jews who believe in these texts as God-inspired, must believe that God can or does use disease to punish right? I mean wasn't Moses (Moshe's) sister struck with leprosy as punishment? Wasn't there a gentile King struck with a strange disease which caused him to become mad because of his pride?

I am not religious myself, but I believe in God and I like to learn about religion. And it seems by just glancing at the texts, that indeed God can/has used disease as punishment for sinning.

Now, this means nothing of course to people who are not Christian or Jewish.
