Getting it out of my system

Question:
I come from a fairly traditional family, always being ill as a child I raised myself in a bubble and took care of myself. Never did I act out too wildly, I was always kind and helped my family and my neighbourhood.

One day I slipped up. I used someone's lip gloss by accident. It was the same brand and colour as mine. I was mortified.

I knew right away that something wasn't right and there wasn't anything I could do to stop it.

Everyone just laughed at me and said, I was stupid enough to think I got cold sores so fast. And I believed them.

I woke up in the middle of the night with bumps on my lips and a bump on my arm where my face had been resting as I slept. I went to the doctor at a walk-in-clinic in the morning and he ushered out with "it's just cold sores" not even giving me a chance to explain my arm situation.

Today my arm has worsened and yet again I'll have to go to the doctor.

I'm going to the doctor for a confirmation and hopefully a plan of action, but I'll survive. I haven't told my parents I had cold sores because my room mate forced me not to as they wouldn't understand and would think I caught it from sleeping around REGARDLESS that they're just in my mouth and on my arm.

It hurts when I use my arm, and it saddens me is that it's the arm I use to write with and draw with and sew with. I felt that I could have done something and change something. I'm afraid that this arm that has helped so many, may now infect those I care about.

I'm not going to give up. I can't. But I can't help but feel sad and scared.

I just had to get the words out.

Answer:
Getting HSV from something like a lip gloss is very rare, and i personally have never heard of it happening. The HSV virus is very weak and will die easily when in contact with oxygen. If you do get diagnosed for HSV, please let us know.

Answer:
Scientists have postulated that exposure to oral HSV1 has the effect of reducing the chances of acquiring genital HSV1 or HSV2 ... and of reducing the severity of genital hepes if that is acquired.

So, if that is true, then you have innoculated yourself against ever getting a bad case of genital herpes ... and that's a good thing. You are a lucky girl!

Caveat, some recent research studies have conflicting evidence about that theory. Still debatable. None the less, oral herpes is usally no big deal compared to genital herpes ... most people get oral herpes and rarely if ever have a subsequent noticeable outbreak.

Answer:
Dejiko, the virus is the worst the first time, but it should get better. Educate yourself, stay healthy (eat, exercise), and hang on - if you have any questions, please ask.
