Odd Question
Question: Hi! I have been dating a guy who has a history of genital herpes though his outbreaks are not frequent. I do not have a history of either oral or genital herpes. I've read that 80 percent of adults carry the oral herpes virus and that it may offer some protection against genital herpes. My question is odd but here goes. Would it possibly be in my best interest to try and acquire oral herpes in order to possibly provide some protection against genital herpes? I know you can get both, but if getting oral herpes might provide some protection, it may be worth. Has anyone else thought of this. I'm not trying to be silly. I just want some honest feedback. Thank you. Answer: :?: Has anybody thought about my question. Again, I'm not trying to be silly, would just like some of your honest opinions. Thanks so much! Answer: Oh G-d NO! Please Angell NO NO NO! You don't want herpes of any kind. I do not believe that having oral herpes will protect you from getting genital herpes. Even if it lessens the possibilities and chances it is not worth having oral herpes to keep from getting genital herpes. This is my opinion. Where did you learn that oral herpes can protect a person from getting genital herpes? I am curious about that. Maybe I missed that in all the material I read so far about herpes virus symplex. Or maybe that particular issue wasn't important enough to me to take special notice since I already have the virus for so long. A person could be infected with both types of herpes at any time they come into contact with the virus is what I understand. Please don't try to infect yourself. Anyway this is only my opinion. Extreme precaution is the ultimate best for someone who is uninfected. There is no reason you should be infected with the virus if you can help it. Be careful, know a persons history and watch out for lesions. Answer: i think what she was getting at is maybe she would have a stronger immunity to the gh virus if she had oral herpes... but it still doesnt sound like a good idea at all...
