I heard Blood Testing for Herpes doesn't work
Question: The doctor told me and my boyfriend that there is no way to tell if he contracted herpes from his ex. It's been 3 years, he has no signs, but we don't wanna risk me catching it. We asked about the blood tests that were mentioned over the web and they said they wouldn't give accurate results, because everyone has herpe antibodies, some people just fight it off. So unless you KNOW you have sores, your up the creek without a paddle. Any comments on what we were told? Thanks Answer: Well, from what I understand is that alot of people may have antibodies to HSV1, but you will only have HSV2 antibodies if you've been infected (normally with genital herpes). I would say your doctor is probably incorrect. Look in your area for the Pockit test. It only takes about 10 minutes and lets you know if you have HSV2 antibodies in your system. It's about 94% accurate. Answer: Well, I recently got a blood test to tell if I have HSV 1 or 2. The nurse told me I have HSV 1, but negative for HSV 2. So, there is such a test. First I called Pro-Med and asked if there was a test, then I drove to the clinic, filled out paperwork, saw the doctor and got blood drawn. Don't let anyone talk you out of being tested. Knowing that I have HSV 1 empowers me with knowledge. It may help me in knowing what to expect this first year. Who really knows, but I'm glad I got tested. Now is the time for you to take control of your health and gain valuable information. Answer: Me and my potential boyfriend went to the STD clinic yesterday and talked to the doctor who said that if my man hasn't had an OB and it's been 2 1/2 years, he most likely doesn't have herpes. I asked about the blood test and he said they were just to take people's money. He said they are learning now that a person can have HVS 1 on their mouths or genitals and HVS 2 on their mouths or genitals as well. He stated that most people have the HVS antibodies, but unless you have the outbreak, you won't know which one you actually have (oral or genital). When my boyfriend went to the emergency to demand blood tests, they gave him the requisition, but told him that it wouldn't tell him anything except he probably has the antibodies, which doesn't mean anything because almost everyone has them. It's such a sneaky STD, all I know is that we are going to take it really slowly and who knows if we will EVER have sex!! :? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
