Welcome to www.thanktoday.com !!!

is there a herpes nutrtion book out there?

Question:
man oh man,
as if life couldnt get any worse getting the H, i come to find off the nutrition list off this site that i can't eat anything. i recently lost over 70 pounds over the last year and a half doing the south beach diet and exercising. i come to find that the south beach diet is the anti-christ to the herpe diet. i cant have whole grain breads, not brown rice, no chocolate, etc. im so depressed and loopy off the pain meds (and maybe the valtrex too) that im having a hard time exercising. dont tell me that on top of having HPV and HERPES, that im gonna gain all the weight back? that brings me to another question? besides dizziness, does valtrex cause weight gain or weight loss????

Answer:

I too just read the list of lysine rich foods the "no-no" foods, and am quite bummed. I LIVE off of nuts, and chocolate, and wheats, and rice. I recently had a baby and I've been doing Weight Watchers for the past 5 months. (I've lost a total of 67lbs since my son was born in Feb, about 40 of which was from WW) It's a little less restrictive but you can still maintain/lose weight on it and eat whatever you want. It's more of a management diet.
Anywho, back to the Valtrex. I too have HPV and Herpes, and I've been on daily supressive therapy for about 4 years now:(.I'm sure, as with all prescription drugs, each person's body will respond differently to the medication. However, in my case, I have experienced NOOO weight gain related to the meds. Hopefully, the same goes for you too.
Hope this helps a bit!

Answer:
Wow! you guys are phenomenal. You must be so proud of yourselves. Congratulations on your weight loss success.

The foods mentioned may be triggers for some people. Arginine and Lysine are both amino acids that you should include in your diet as they help to maintain a healthy immune system.

If you are eating foods on the list and you aren't getting outbreaks don't change a thing.

If you experience frequent outbreaks it may help to tip the balance towards the lysine side. If you can't do this with diet you can take dietary supplements of lysine if necessary.

Antiviral meds made me lose weight in the beginning.

Answer:
Theres a dietery book and that website site "never-an-outbreak" that I heard helps.

Also eating alot of protien helps suppress the virus. So you should maybe try the doctor aitken's diet....

Answer:
I try to stay away from the foods with high arginine...but sometimes its hard. With all the holidays approaching and the foods I will be eating, which I'm sure will include much with arginine in it...just take some lysine tablets if you find you have a problem.

I just got an OB (HSV-1) yesterday morning, for the first time in more than 2 years (knock on wood).

I lost about 30 lbs. throughout the course of this year and many of the foods that are on the arginine side were what I have been eating. Caffeine and Chocolate are my guilty pleasures, of course! Both are bad. I don't take lysine unless I have an outbreak. Although it has great effects, it did funny things with my dietary tract, and I had decided to not take daily supplements.

But I have to tell you that I dont think the nutrition had any effect on my OB. I missed my period last time (no reason, not pregnant) and I got an extra heavy one earlier this week. I think this is the reason why.

So good luck with the weight loss, and don't worry so much about the foods. It isn't accurate for everyone. I know this lady at my office who takes 1000mg of lysine daily and gets about 4-5 outbreaks every year.

I know this lady at my office who takes 1000mg of lysine daily and gets about 4-5 outbreaks every year. Clinical studies show that Lysine is only effective in preventing or clearing outbreaks when taken in doses of 1250mg or more.

Hope this helps,

Shenda

Answer:
I meant 1000mg twice per day.
