I love Famvir

Question:
I hope I don't kick myself for saying this and get a worsened outbreak....but I love Famvir!!! I took it for my primary OB and it stopped it right in its tracks. I was getting new blisters by the hour the first time and as soon as I started taking it they stopped forming. It was still hell healing up from that crap but better than getting worse!

I started getting prodromes on Sunday and took it right away, and if it weren't for the lovely little yeast infection that sprung up with it I would be fit for horseback riding today!! I still felt the symptoms monday and a little yesterday, but then I realized I was just itchy from a yeast infection and had the crappy discharge yada yada.... The only thing I don't like about the drug is that the day I take it (you take two pills twice a day and that's it) I feel lousy all day with headache/run-down type feeling, and it's EXPENSIVE!!!! Like $50 for four pills at Walmart, and that's the cheapest pharmacy around here anyway. The money is worth it though to not have that rotten feeling and those blisters YUCK!!!

If you haven't tried this pill yet I recommend it, although I know antivirals don't work for everyone. I think I read that it works for cold-sores too. It's not an instant fix like the website has you believe but it does do wonders in a day or two. And God no, I don't have anything to gain by promoting it so don't worry. I'm just a regular person and I would like to help anyone else get over their OBs quickly...good luck all and blessed be!!

Answer:
This is encouraging to hear as the perscription I was given for cold sores (if I ever get them again) was for Famvir.

My cold sore was deep inside my mouth. Listerine wholloped the pain nicely if I swished every couple hours, and it only cost a few bucks! However, for external sores, I'm glad to have the perscription handy.

Answer:
Did you try acyclovir? Supposedly they all boil down to the same drug in the body, so you may want to try acyclovir if you haven't already and see if you also have good results. It's ALOT cheaper.

How do you take acyclovir? I like the fact that you only take Famvir for one day because I get crappy side effects from it. I get side effects from almost all precription medicine so the less I have to take it the better! But I'm all about cheaper too, I just would rather feel like crap for one day than one week or something. It still took a good week for ALL the minor tingles to go away, plus I had to clear up a yeast infection. But compared to my first OB it was like a trip to Disney Land!!!

Answer:
I've never taken anything for any herpetic outbreak other than chicken pox (and then I was given Zovirax, which was brilliant in suppressing the pox outbreak). I was recently given the Famvir after an outbreak just in case I have another outbreak. My inclination in general is to ride things out as long as possible without meds.
