Is there a possibility?
Question: Hi, i would like to know what are the possibilitys of catching Herpes simplex 1 through sharing a cigeratte with someone that has no visible sores, Also i would like to know would herpes be able to survive for long in a heated enviroment,On a ciggarette, blunt, joint or bowl. Any response would be much appreciated. Thank you Answer: The chances of contracting it from that one cigarette are slim to none, as long as no symptoms were apparent. The more you share joints and bowls with others, though, your chances of contraction increase exponentially. Having said that, I'd like to add that back in the day (when dinosaurs still roamed the earth), I'd wager that over a period of years, I must have passed the pleasure with about a thousand people, at least, and never gave one single thought to contracting cold sores. I never did, and neither did my husband, yet I know for a fact that some of those wonderful people we partied with were plagued by them. That tells me that it's not worth angsting over. Answer: I didnt see any visible sores on this person.. i heard the virus dies fairly quick 10 seconds i think it was the time it took for it to die depending on the situation but i would imagine it would die quickly on a cigarette seeing how its always lit.. im just somewhat paranoid and looking for some type of reasurrence thank you for your response though Answer: Gee... and I thought I was being reassuring. Sorry, but if you're looking for someone to tell you that you absolutely, positively, 100% sure you can't catch it from a cigarette, joint, or bowl, you won't find that kind of reassurance here. There just isn't anything THAT predictable about herpes. If it's going to worry you in the future, though, stop sharing smoking materials. End of problem. :) Answer: Thanks for the response again i guess theres nothing i can do, and i will take your sugestion on quiting, although the feedback i've been getting from other people they say.. chances are i dont have it if there isnt visible sore thanks once again. Answer: Concerned295, I thought writercll was telling you that the chances of contracting hsv from your cigarettes etc. was very slim but that she could not tell you that she knew 100% that you would never be at risk. There is always that one person who has the misfortune of being the first and that messes up all of the statistics. If you get a coldsore then you'll know but until that time don't worry too much.
