Question:
Hi everybody! This is my first post...

I recently had a case of the Stupids and got intimate with a girl my mother wouldn't have approved of.

Which got me scared, so I went to the doctor and requested a blood test checking for "EVERYTHING".

Everything came back negative except the HSV2...IGG positive, IGM negative.

The truth of the matter is I have never had a noticable symptom. Sometimes various parts of my crotch itch, but I think thats normal for every human being on earth.

I don't even know if my source of infection was oral or genital or what. (Yes, you can have an oral HSV2 infection).

The doctor immediately wrote me a prescription for Valtrex and told me to take it for the rest of my life.

But my question is...why? My dating life is currently on hold for this and other reasons. I have never had a noticeable outbreak and I don't pose a threat to anyone. I am a clean person and wash my hands after going to the bathroom, etc.

If anyone knows why I should take this medicine that can cause such terrible side effects for what amounts to a "harmless" skin condition, please let me know, because as it stands this Valtrex will just chill in my medicine cabinet for now...

I completely agree with you. I have outbreaks, but mine are mild enough that i agree. I think valtrex for people like you (and even me) is just a money-making scheme. Let it sit in your shelf until you have an OB, then decide if it's bad enough you even want to take it.

The only thing that worries me is you saying you "don't pose a threat to anyone". As long as you realize you are only threat-less when you're not sleeping with someone, i agree. :)

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. My dating life was on hold even before this diagnosis...I am in the middle of getting some professional certifications, relocating to the city, etc...

My other concern was self-reinfection (autoinnoculation), but from what I read on Wikipedia, this is pretty rare and happens mostly when people are having a violent outbreak (which I'm not).

I'm more interested in not blasting my liver and kidneys with Valtrex.
