Lesion on nipple.

Question:
Have any of you out there with herpes had this as a symptom with no other symptoms showing?

my 13 month old son recently died - exact cause to be determined, however he tested positive for herpes in swabs from his eyes, nose and rectum. I didn't know I had herpes, but got tested for it anyway after my son tested positive. The results were IgG detected and IgM detected. The only symptom I had was a lesion on my nipple but I thought it was a cracked nipple and even checked with my obstetrician and the midwife and the nurses at the hospital who all said it was fine to breastfeed.

What I want to know is if this could be the cause of my son's death, as he did not show any symptoms - came home healthy and happy after delivery then at 10 days old, he started vomiting (no temperature/diarrhoea etc), started to have laboured breathing, and turned blue. He had to be resuscitated at hospital and spent 3 days in icu before he died. They actually didn't know he had herpes as I didn't know I had it, and the symptoms pointed to adrenal failure then multi-system failure...

My husband and I have since been tested for congenital adrenal defect and we are not carriers. We're just at a bit of a loss since then as none of doctors have said it's the herpes which has caused his death. Has anyone heard of something like this happening?

Answer:
1st I want to say sorry for your loss. I never heard of herpes on the nipple I am very new to this disease but I jsut wanted you to know I read your post and am deeply sorry for you. I hope the doctors find out how your child passed away and you will be in my prayers

Answer:
My heart goes out to you. I lost my 3 mo old son 31 years ago, and I know there are no words to describe that kind of pain. Even now, not a day goes by that I don't think of him. He died because of something I did out of ignorance, and I live with that guilt daily. If only...

Sometimes it's better not to know. Sometimes it's better just to accept, and let things be, because once you know, you can never not know, and you can never forget.

I sincerely hope you find the peace you seek.

Answer:
Thank you for your replies - I just realised I said 13 month old when he was actually just 13 days old when he died...

I have actually found out from researching online that there can be lesions on the breasts. I guess it's just something for all those with herpes who are expecting to watch out for and just to be careful.

If anyone though has heard of such a thing or had any similar experience, please let me know...

Answer:
i'm very sorry for your loss. i'm pretty sure herpes can cause meningitis in newborns and if not treated immediatly can be tragic. i hope you find all the answers your looking for and again i'm very sorry for your loss.
