Roomate Spread?

Question:
whattup

my current roomate is pretty much my big brother and he knows i have this.
he's moving out with his woman in the new year

paranoia makes me think it might be cuz he's scared to get this from me
that, plus a million other things includin our filthy bachelor life he's growing out of lol

now, i have a new roomate lined up, who is like my LITTLE brother.. and he doesnt know i have this..

so here's my situation..

i dont wanna make HIM feel like he's moving into a contaminated zone and freak out so i dont wanna do a big 'before you move in, i'm obligated to inform you' enter-at-your-own-risk speech that we all dread and that i havent even done with girls, let alone my boy..

cuz that could lead to *another* one of my good friends *POSSIBLY* feeling weird around me

but if they SHOULD feel weird around me, i should tell him

so whats the roomate risk factor?

anyone ever given this to non-sexual roomate before?

what would even be the possible spread situations be?

i dunno... i dont wanna put myself on blast, but i really dont wanna put my friend in a bad way without even warning him.. so should i bear my soul and maybe freak him out or keep it cool instead of makin a non-issue an issue?

Answer:
Unless you two plan on being "up close and personal' with one another...ahem...which I doubt, there is really no way he can contract herpes from you unless

1) you touch a lesion then run up to him and give him a noogie on the head/face/whatever....(just wash your hands well.)

2) there is the slightest of slim chances he can contract it if he uses your towels. So...do you share a bathroom?? If so, just keep your towels (used ones) seperate from him. Wash underclothing and towels in bleach. Voila. Virus no more! ;-) Nobody should EVER use the same towel...herpes or no herpes...that is just....ewwww.....

3) don't let him wear the same drawers/boxers as you. Another big EWww...herpes or no....

Honestly, there is really no way he is going to catch it from you, so it can remain your secret. Just use a few extra precautions (that you should use with or without a roommate..and with or without herpes!) and you will both be fine.

take care!
ouch

There are plenty of us here who have kids who live with us. We haven't spread it to our kids (at least, not genital H, oral is another deal with kids), so i doubt you have much chance AT ALL of spreading to your new roommate.

That said, it's possible he could get upset if he finds out you have it and you haven't told him, at least initially until he understands what H is and how it's passed. Just something to consider?

Answer:
I dont' feel it is necessary to tell anybody your herpes status except those you are planning to bump uglies with. If for some reason your roommate DOES find out about your status , then you can EDUCATE him at that point what herpes is all about and allay his fears. But otherwise, if you are not sharing a bed with each other, aren't having any sexual contact together and not using one anothers personal items, then forget about it. It is not worth worrying over.

I have two kids, and while I always freak out about every little thing (transmitting it to them somehow...) I take some extra precautions and then just LIVE.

THIS is why there is such a stigma about this stuff, because EVERYBODY is so paranoid about the unknown. I can only imagine that it would be only 0.0000000000000001% of the human population that has contracted herpes via a toilet seat, or some other inanimate object. Just clean up after yourselves, don't have messy homes, and you all will be FINE.

It wouldn't even cross my mind to tell a flat-mate.

I can't think of one reason why I would have to.

It's passed on through skin to skin contact.

So no snogging and no sex - but I guess you're not planning to that with him right??? ;)

Seriously, I think you're making too much of a deal out of it.

I have friends stay with me in my house from time to time - why should they know I have this virus?

I have no idea what THEY have - although I doubt even THEY know that!

Where would it end? Do you want to know what he has? Should you both have an STD screening before moving in together? Should you sign something to say you know of the risks.

I wouldn't give it another thought.

Answer:
Dont' have messy homes - I love that. Two young lads living together. Some hope!!!:-D

I've answered this in a different thread. In short - absolutely no need to tell him.

HAHAHA! yeah, right, the perinneal bachelor pad and all that!

But you know, I do KNOW a lot of blokes who actually DO keep a nice and tidy home. So it is not unheard of. They even go into the loo and put the seat down for the ladies and what not!!! now hows THAT eh?!?!

Kwest, I am sure you are a tidy lad. We are just joshin' ya! ;-)

Answer:
my spot used to be pretty nice actually

but to be honest, when i got this, in my initial depression i decided that since no one would be in my bedroom for awhile except for me that it didnt matter, and now my room is ridiculously bad... i'd easily have to do laundry all day for a week to get it back to zero

i'm just paranoid about spreading.. it'll be 1 year on dec 26th and i still shower with a rubber glove.. what can i say
