90% of people having genital herpes ?
Question: 90% of people have oral herpes. All people have oral sex and kiss regulary on butts or tights... and all people have the virus with no symptoms once in a while in the saliva and on lips. 20% of people are supposed to have a genital herpes (which is infectuous full time) and 80% don't know they have it. Adding that most people don't know much about herpes and don't even know that a cold sore is herpes how could only 20% have genital herpes ? Something is NOT logical. Do 80% of people have labial AND genital herpes ? Would be very logical. Please help. Answer: Generally, oral herpes is type1 and genital herpes is type 2. They are different strands, but you can get type 1 or type 2 either orally or genitally. If a person has oral herpes type 1 they have the antibodies that protect them from getting type 1 genitally which would explain why the infection rate of genital herpes is much lower. Answer: Kikitos - I think you are somewhat misinformed in those statistics. I have read reports that say that 70% of people will be infected with herpes coldsores in their lifetime. (coldsores usually = herpes simplex virus 1) The majority do not know this is herpes or how it is transmitted. i.e. oral sex practices. I have read reports that say that 25% of people over the age of 12 are infected with genital herpes. (genital herpes usually = herpes simplex virus 2) The majority do not know they are infected. Neither virus is contagious 100% of the time but can be contagious without visible symptoms. Statistically without symptoms they are contagious 4% of the time. Not everyone participates in sexual activity. Not everyone participates in oral sex activity. Either virus strand hsv1 or hsv2 can be an oral or genital infection with and without symptoms. this link might be informative. Answer: I think you are somewhat misinformed in those statistics. Neither virus is contagious 100% of the time but can be contagious without visible symptoms. Statistically without symptoms they are contagious 4% of the time. I agree, it is like any virus, you can be in contact but not be infected. Yet, if you are often in contact, soomer or later, you will get it. Not everyone participates in sexual activity. Not everyone participates in oral sex activity. Do you have names? What % of adult people has never participated in any sexual activity ? Same for oral sex? Either virus strand hsv1 or hsv2 can be an oral or genital infection with and without symptoms. I agree. And having H1 on mouth doesn't protet you from having it one the sex. CORRECT? I think you haven't undertood my point : if 90% of poeple have herpes on lips (H1 or H2, never mind which one) and if the virus is very easy to get, why only 20/25% are supposed to have a genital herpes ? Only 25% of people have had sex? Don't forget, you can put it from your lips on your sex with masturbation... Answer: Most people don't have outbreaks. If you don't have outbreaks, you have about a 4% chance of shedding at any given time. If you already have HSV-1 antibodies (assumng you have oral HSV1) you have MUCH smaller chance of catching HSV-1 genitally, because your body is prepared to fight off the virus in a different location. So autoinnoculation is difficult. If you have oral sex with someone, again you've got a 4% chance of having the virus active, and it's entirely possible that most people's fully-functioning immune systems could ward this off (i got it when i was WAAAAY drunk, so immune system down). Also, if you have HSV-1 antibodies, you have a first line of defense against catching HSV-2. One more thing: the 90% estimate makes a lot more sense if you consider people who are in their 40s or 50s -- they've been exposed through childhood kissing, they've been exposed through their horny 20s, they've been exposed through marriage 1 and 2 (and 3), and now have a 90% chance of having caught it. If you put it in that perspective, it makes more sense. Lastly, you have to remember that's an ESTIMATE. Without the proper testing, there's no way to really know. I wouldn't worry about passing it to your genitals through masturbation as long as you're past your first ob. Answer: I cant quote us or worldwide stats, but in the UK..... 10% of the sexually active population has HSV-2 out of these 10%, only 20% will get symptoms ( so 2% of sexually active population) Of a first outbreak, 20% will get sciatica (1% of sexually active population will get a first ob and shooting pains) out of these 20%, only 50% will get a second outbreak (so 1% of sexually active population will have 2 obs of hsv-2 in their life.) Out of those 50%, only 10% will get sciatica (so 0.1% of sexually active population will get 2 or more ob AND have sciatica) So 8% of the sexually active population have hsv-2 and do not have symptoms at all.
