I know this is a vague question, but here goes.
I am a male who has had had genital herpes for 18 years. To my knowledge I have never infected anyone. (I have been very careful)
The other night after a several drinks, I had intercourse with my girlfriend. I had an outbreak last week and it was pretty much cleared up. (Just some slight redness) I took acyclovir all week and washed the area often during the past week. I kept the area dry and wore loose clothes etc. After realizing what I did I felt just horrible and still do. I am sure it is possible that I infected my GF, but are there any statistics on how long after an outbreak that you are still able to infect another?

I've read some sites that claim that you could be shedding the week before any prodomal symptoms and the week after you are all cleared up.

Does she know that she is at risk for Herpes?
