Question:
I was diagnosed with type 2 herpes January 2004, but believe I've actually had it since I was 19-20 and it was misdiagnosed then. When I first got blisters, my gynecologist said it looked like an allergic reaction to my laundry soap and I was happy to accept that. The unusual thing is that before I experienced any genital blisters, I would get periodic outbreaks of blisters on the middle finger of my right hand in the same place every outbreak. That was diagnosed as dermatitis and that's what I thought it was until the summer of 2004, when my doctor diagnosed it as herpes. I didn't make the connection between the blisters on my finger to the blisters on my genital area because I always thought those were allergic reactions. The blisters on my finger happened first, when I was 17. My question is, is it possible that I contracted herpes in my finger, then gave it to myself genitally by touching myself during an outbreak ? (What can I say, I'm right-handed) Even if I did contract herpes sexually (which is highly likely) I don't feel too bad about it (I just don't want to give it to anybody else). I practiced safe sex most of the time, but I wasn't vigilant enough and this virus is so contagious. I'm just thankful I'm not HIV positive! Well, tell me what you think.

Answer:
it's pretty likely you got it from masturbating (i'm right-handed too, hahahaha). i have HSV1 downstairs, and i either got it from myself or someone else i haven't spoken to yet. but if you touched yourself down south during an OB on you finger, it's almost definite that that's how you got it, if you ask me
