I found it to be very effective for controlling both types. It can stop or limit an outbreak to just a few days rather than weeks. Negatives are can cause a rash if use too much (like on back of spine per various websites), changes color of hair in area used, and it makes you smell kinda like garlic (after a certain period of use, you dont notice the smell anymore, but others do!). I have done much research with various forms and methods. I think it may be difficult to eliminate the virus totally from your system using just this because of how the virus hides. Thats the short story. :) Some people have claimed it caused lymph problems. I havent had that problem so Im not sure how those affected used the product.
