i would be really happy of any help anyone can give me i`m 19 and have suffered with coldsores since i was five at the moment i have 6 all on the top part of my lip and i am currently using zovirax i have heard people talking about useing tablets etc but am not really sure on the best ones to use! also is there anything else i could use in between breakouts to prevent them from happening as they are becoming more fequent and i g really ashamed of them which gets me down a lot of the time

Hey there i'm a 15 year old female from england. i get very very bad coldsores at least once a month at the moment i've got my worse one ever. its all over the the part between my nose and top lip. up my nose and over my top lip.

I don't think any over-the-counter is going to be as effective as Valtrex or a prescription antiviral. I had a cold sore about a month ago and took one valtrex for 2 days and it was not only MUCH smaller (the progression stopped), but it was gone a whole lot quicker.

You can take it as soon as you know you have a coldsore (it has to be pretty immediate) or, you can take it as a suppressive therapy. Ask your doctor.

This works for my cold sores too!
I started a vitamin regimen about 5 or 6 months ago that seems to keep the outbreaks at a minimum. I take two L-Lysine tablet, one Beta Carotene gel cap and a vitamin C every morning. I haven't had a breakout since. Another thing that helped when I did notice either a tickle or discomfort I would immediately hit it with Abreva, then two hours later hit it with liquid soap and leave it on there, don't wash it off so it dries the skin. Then alternate throughout the days until it went away. I would also increase my L-Lysine to 6 tablets a day during the initial breakout phase as well as more vitamin C. Using the liquid soap, be careful not to use too much or it really dries your skin out bad and will peel badly.

Someone here mentioned about having lip crack and cold sores.
I also have cold sore before and has frequent lip crack that lasts for many days and does not seem to heal but usually is only 1 cut that lasts for about 1 week. Some says that these lip cracks i keep getting frequently are cold sore recurrences. However, I only had 1 time of cold sore where I can see the cluster of blisters. During lip cracks, I never see a sore. Any idea what my lip cracks are due to?
