I am a pregnant Mom with herpes!

Question:
I am a pregnant Mom with Herpes. I have two girls. One is 13 years old and I did not have herpes when I gave birth to her back in 1991. My other daughter is 18 months old and I did have herpes when I gave birth to her in 2003. I am now currently pregnant with my third child and am due in November. We will find out at the end of next week if we are having a boy or a girl.

Having genital herpes is not a problem for me. With Fiona (my 18 month old) I simply went on suppressive therapy with Valtrex during the last six weeks of my pregnancy. This helped to reduce the chances of having an outbreak during labor and delivery. I plan to do the same thing with this new baby.

If you are pregnant and have hsv and would like to talk I'm always available. Feel free to send me an instant message or an e-mail any time.

Hope this helps,

Angela :D

Answer:
Did you have a c-sec or natural birth??? I had a vaginal delivery.

Did the doc test you for ob at the time of delivery?? Everything seemed to be in order during labor and deliver AND I felt great so he basically went with how I was looking and feeling. We had a nice long discussion about how things would go 6 weeks prior. Of course we both agreed that if I didn't feel right (since I know my prodromes well) that he would support my decision to have a c-section if it would come down to that. For the most part I wasn't worried and felt pretty strongly that suppression with Valtrex was doing it's job to keep herpes suppressed.

Does suppresive therapy prevent shedding of the virus do you know?? Absolutely!! Suppressive therapy reduces the intensity and frequency of outbreaks, it reduces transmission by 50%, and it reduces asymptomatic shedding by about 95%.

So many questions I am sorry I am 27 weeks with my first and worried sick to be honest wish I had your positiveness on it all I guess I just read the worst and panick!! No need to be worried or in a panick. What are your plans for labor and delivery? Does your doctor know that you have herpes? Are you planning on going on suppression the last six weeks?

Also did you have any ob during your pregnancy?? I had a couple of outbreaks during my pregnancy. I treated them with Valtrex and they cleared up within three days. How about you?

Do you know if you are going to have a boy or a girl? We will find out on Friday if we are having a boy or girl. I'm getting excited for that..

And a DOLL! I love him so much!! Born March 30th.
I DID choose to have a c section...one, because I never have any symptoms OF the herpes...well hardly never...and I always feel as though I am in the "prodomme phase'...the tingling, funny feeling...most times when this starts, I never have an outbreak, I just have the weird begining feeling then phhht...nothing. I didn't want to take any chances or risk anything. I chose the csection and it works for me. I also chose it because I have a 10 year old son, and I damn near died (so did he) giving birth to him. I didn't have the herps back then, I just have somthing wrong with my hip/pelvic bone that make it hard for me to have a vaginal birth....so it was all the more reason for my c section. The doctor I had this time was PISSED at my old doctors for every allowing me to have a vaginal birth after a 45 hour long labor.

It was kind of a good "beard" though, I mean, it was the truth, but hten I didn't have to tell people "oh hey, by the way! I got the herps! that is why I am having a csection." HAHAHA. It is no one's business other than mine and my boyfriend. He does NOT have it, but has always been so cool and supportive of my situation. That alone helps me tremendously in dealing with this crap. He agreed with me about the csection and was right there by my side to watch the birth of his son. Now we have a beautiful baby boy.

I didn't take ANY suppresive pills...not until about a week before my son was born...I started to actually have bad outbreaks, I guess the hormones were making my body go koo koo, and they were BAD (prior to this, I really had little to NO outbreaks) so I finally couldn't take it any more and caved in. I figured that at THAT late in the pregnancy, the baby was all formed and what not...so it couldn't hurt him too much.

For those who are preggo, please, do not let this shitty little annoying virus ruin your pregnancy. You are no different from any other happy expecting mother and deserve to treasure this moment in your life. Treat the ole herps as exactly what it is...a stupid, contagious annoyance you have to deal with...tell it to go away! I am serious! Keep your chin up and be happy! You can fight this stuff!
