Pregnant and need advice

Question:
Im 17 and I am pregnant and i have genital herpes. I want to get an abortion, but what i would like to know does anyone know if after i get an abortion will it trigger an outbreak whats gonna happen down there if I get an abortion?

Answer:
I think those are good questions to ask your doctor. I know this wasn't your question, but I have to add that I hope you've sought some guidance in exploring all the options available to you. There are a lot of resources available to give you an actual person who can help you sort through the choices available and decide if abortion is really the best choice for you.

You have obviously decided to have an abortion, so I dont know why anyone would insinuate (as I am suggesting they have) that you have not already explored your options and have clearheadedly arrived at your current decision, which is in fact absolutely fine---and even less risky than a full term pregnancy. Moreover, I'm going to give you credit for being intelligent enough to make a decision about your body with more information about you and your life than I as an internet stranger could ever do. So onward march...

You might ask Planned Parenthood. You wont get a lecture, and you will get some good information. Off hand, I'm unaware of any particular consequences.

Answer:
Yes her decision is fine and it is her's. There are no questions there. It's not uncommon for teenage girls (or even grown, adult women) to come to that decision without guidance and grow to regret it later. My HOPE for this particular young woman was that she had found those resources as well. That is a big decision and huge step to take and every woman deserves guidance and support as she makes it. It wasn't a lecture, it was simply my hope that she isn't facing this decision alone. It's not a life vs. choice debate, so don't make it one

It just seems (to me) that young women who decide to have a baby and put it up for adoption as one option for example, are not generally prodded to "seek guidance" or "consider all of their options", whereas those who elect to have an abortion are often presumed to have not given it any serious thought or to have had any guidance--which I think is a complete insult to female intelligence.

I would think that there are as many women who went ahead and had babies whose lives were pretty much ruined from that point (and sometimes the baby's too) as there are women who regret abortion---they love their children, but they acknowledge that it was a disservice to both themselves and the baby to have had the baby at the time that they did. I've personally observed women in that situation and it is thoroughly, thoroughly sad--no life experience, no mothering skills whatsoever, no support, just a baby in the carriage.

Answer:
I agree with everything you said. I feel that any woman faced with deciding how to cope with an unplanned pregnancy deserves the same guidance. The reason I didn't say more about it, which probably would have made my intentions more clear--my apologies, is because it wasn't related to her question. I was trying to keep my thoughts on it short and sweet. I certainly wouldn't presume to know what is better decision for a young woman I've never met.
