Prodelphinidin B-2 3-O-gallate, a proanthocyanidin gallate isolated from green tea leaf, was investigated for its anti-herpes simplex virus type 2 properties in vitro. Prodelphinidin B-2 3'-O-gallate exhibited antiviral activity with IC50 of 5.0 +/-1.0 microM and 1.6 +/-0.3 pM for XTT and plaque reduction (PRA) assays, respectively. Cytotoxicity assay had shown that prodelphinidin B-2 3'-O-gallate possessed cytotoxic effect toward Vero cell at concentration higher than its IC50. The 50% cytotoxic concentration for cell growth (CC50) was 33.3 +/- 3.7 microM. Thus, the selectivity index (SI) (ratio of IC50 to CC50) for XTT assay and PRA was 6.7 and 20.8, respectively. Prodelphinidin B-2 3'-O-gallate significantly reduced viral infectivity at concentrations 10 microM or more. Result of time-of-addition studies suggested that prodelphinidin B-2 3'-O-gallate affected the late stage of HSV-2 infection. In addition, it was also shown to inhibit the virus from attaching and penetrating into the cell. Thus, prodelphinidin B-2 3'-O-gallate was concluded to possess antiviral activity with mechanism of inhibiting viral attachment and penetration, and disturbing the late stage of viral infection."


Just wondering does anyone here drink Green tea or takes an extract on regular basis and what are the results in terms of outbreaks?

2 weeks ago I got a gift from a good friend of mine, he gave me chinese green tea. I love drinking tea but the taste of this one is just great. I was infected on October last year and since then have had 3 outbreaks, the last one was quite bad but not as bad as the first one. Last week just out of curosity I searched on google if green tea could help you to fight the virus and I found the same information as you did. I try to drink at least 3 cups a day, huge cups though :D. I can't say yet if it is helping, it's been only 1 week but maybe in a long term? According to what I red on the internet you have to drink at least 10 cups a day if you want it to be effective. I also ordered 6 bottles virgin coconut oil, should get the delivery next week. I want to try everything that might help. I even looked up if horseleech could help but can't find enough information. On some website you read horsellech is effective against herpes *herpes zoster* - but how? Almost no information! Liquorice should also has some effect .... well I think the only way to find out is to try ;)

Well i had no idea that green tea would help at all. I have been drinking it for about two weeks straight and it might be one of the contributors to healing then....I haven't healed in 6 months and amazingly things are beginning to turn around...i Just would NEVER have thought of it being the green tea. Hmm...It would be worth a try to keep it up and see what happens...
