Hi, I have a question...

Question:
I was diagnosed earlier this month with Herpes...I am still waiting results of my blood test. I still have a lot of questions about H. Such as the websites say that you have a "lower risk" of transmitting it when you don't have an outbreak and you use protection...but is there always that risk that you can infect them????

When I found out I had this, I was devestated and thought my life was/is over. I still get depressed it about it occasionally when I met men and feel like I can't trust them. I want to be able to trust someone again and be intimate with someone again without any guilt.

After reading some of the stories in the forum, I am hopeful and apprehensive after reading some of the experiences some people have had telling their partners.

I just wanted to vent my feelings. I have had a lot on my mind lately and this helps to get it out. I hope to meet other people that are going through the same thing I am going through.

Take Care,
noone

Answer:
It is possible to transmit the virus when you are not having an outbreak. The virus "sheds" sometimes even when you feel no symptoms at all, and can be transmitted to your partner.

Always use condoms and, if you can afford it, stay on suppressive therapy. Valtrex studies have shown a large reduction in the change of transmission if you use the medicine regularly.

I've been on suppressive therapy for three years (a Valtrex every other day) and my husband has not contracted the virus yet.

Good luck to you in the dating world. It can be tough, but there are wonderful men out there (like my husband) that are accepting and very understanding. Others, not so much. I think you will find H is a very good determiner of who the good ones and the bad ones are, and whether their intentions are to love you for you, or for the physical relationship you can offer.

Thanks for the info, I am hopeful that I will meet someone. I don't have a problem meeting guys, just trusting them. It is hard, but you give me hope! :)
