The following is some basic information regarding ozone therapy for Herpes simplex type I and II :


START AND DURATION OF THERAPY

Ideally, ozone therapy for Herpes simplex should be started when the patient is beginning to have a Herpes eruption, and it should last for at least two months, during which the patient should receive at least ten to twelve sessions of ozone therapy. This timing is normally only possible for patients who live in the city of Sao Paulo. Patients living in distant cities, or in other states or countries, normally cannot chose such ideal timing. For these patients the treatment must be started at any given time and must be ?compacted? into a time frame affordable to the patient. This is not ideal, but it still has some efficacy.


EFFICACY

Normally, the efficacy of any therapeutic method, be it ozone therapy or any other, for the treatment of Herpes simplex I and II, is measured by the percentage of patients who remain free of Herpes eruptions during a one year period following the treatment. According to my statistics, the chance of not having a Herpes eruption during one year after the minimum series of ozone therapy is approximately 36 %. I have observed, however, that those patients who do have further eruptions will benefit from ?booster? sessions, whenever and as long as these recurrent eruptions appear. Again, there is the problem of distances : a patient living in our city can easily come in for such booster sessions at any time, whereas a patient living hundreds (or thousands) of miles away wild hardly ever have such chance.


GUARANTEE

No therapeutic method, which ever it may be, and for whatever disease or condition it may be meant, can have the privilege of guarantee for its efficacy. In medicine, it is simply impossible to guarantee any result for any form of therapy, for any kind of disease. It is always and only a matter of probabilities. Results can only be more or less likely. With ozone therapy things are not different. No patient should ever expect or understand that ozone therapy promises or guarantees a cure for Herpes.



RESULTS

Several things may happen in your body after ozone therapy, regarding the presence of the Herpes virus :

a) Ideally, you build up an immune capacity which is good enough to eliminate the Herpes virus from your body. This would be the best possible result. However, such optimum immune capacity cannot and will not last forever, and after some time, which may be years, you may once again become vulnerable to a new infection with Herpes virus, which may or may not produce Herpes eruptions.

b) You may build up an immune capacity good enough only to hold the virus at bay, not letting it produce Herpes eruptions, but unable to eliminate the virus from your body. This would be an intermediate result. As soon as your immune capacity decreases, which may be years later and for whatever reason, your chance of having new Herpes eruptions increases again.

c) You may build up an immune capacity good enough only to reduce the intensity of the Herpes eruptions and to increase the intervals between eruptions. This would be a rather poor result.

d) You may not experience any improvement of your Herpes-related condition following ozone therapy. This would be what I call the ?zero-effect?, and I have seen this only twice in all these years.


CORRELATIONS

Contrary to what one might expect, I have not been able to see any correlation between some characteristics of the Herpes disease and its response to ozone therapy. Examples :

a) There seems to be no correlation between the total previous time of existence of the disease and the result of ozone therapy.

b) There seems to be no correlation between the previous intensity of the Herpes eruptions and the result of ozone therapy.

c) There seems to be no correlation between the previous length of the interval between Herpes eruptions and the result of ozone therapy.


DIAGNOSIS

Normally, the diagnosis of a Herpes eruption is made simply by looking at the skin lesion. A physician who knows Herpes will immediately recognize a Herpes lesion only by looking at it. Some laboratory work can be done, of course, but in most cases this is not a real necessity. The blisters can be opened and their fluid can be collected and processed in the laboratory, in order to find virus particles or characteristic inflammatory elements in this fluid. The patient?s blood can be examined in order to detect the ( immunoglobuline ) IgG and IgM levels. A high IgG level means there has been previous contact of this person with the Herpes virus. A high IgM level means there is a Herpes eruption presently going on. Every Herpes patient knows that he has at one time been exposed to the Herpes virus, and will not need an IgG test to find this out. Equally, every Herpes patient knows when there is an eruption going on, and will not need an IgM test to find this out.



GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS

During our life, we are constantly attacked and ?invaded? by an enormous number of the most diverse biological agents ( bacteria, viruses, fungi, prions ), and exposed to an ever increasing number of chemical substances which come in the air we inhale, in the food we eat, in the water we drink and in the medicines we take. On top of all this, there has been an exponential increase of electromagnetic radiation to which we are permanently exposed, deriving from ever more wireless connections that are meant to facilitate our lives, and whose impact on our health has only recently been imagined, but not yet fully explained. If, despite all these factors, we are alive and well, it is because we have an immune system which really works miracles. Staying alive and well is, in a certain way, a heroic act of balance between attack and defense. Many are the ways to weaken a person?s immune defenses, and tobacco, alcohol, drugs, etc., are only but a few examples. Ozone therapy does have the capacity to improve this balance, at least temporarily, by strengthening the defenses. Ozone therapy cannot be expected to work miracles. Also, and especially, the patient must do his part, trying to eliminate as many as possible ?attackers?, by eating correctly, by assuring enough sleep, by not abusing alcoholic beverages, by not using drugs, by making an honest effort to reduce emotional stress levels, and so forth. There is no such thing as ?outsourcing? the recovery of health. The patient must always be involved and fully committed. The patient must always do his part.
