19 month old baby possible hsv 2

Question:
My daughter is 19 months and I made an awful error of judgement a month ago.
We use papaw ointment in this house for her nappy rash and hub & I use it for healing my lesions. Last time hubby bought a huge jar. I prefer to use the tubes. Anyhow, irresponsibly I used some of this ointment on her nappy rash after we had used it on our outbreaks. Although we did not put our used fingers in the pot the other day she developed red bumps at the top of her bum crease.
The bumps are still there a month later and now she has different spots of these bumps on her bottom and leg. Almost looks like ringworm but not as pronounced. I took her to my doctor who said its not herpes as its always blisters which I think is crap because I have scabby bumps on my breasts which dont form blisters. Anyhow, I have been careful to check her anal area and it has been red (which I thought was normal nappy rash) usually though after a few days of papaw it goes away. Not this time. I then saw what I thought were a couple of yellow things near her anus but the next day i couldnt see them and thought it was a trick of the light. Today I again examined her anal area and there are two "sores" like the scab or skin has been ripped off the top and they are red. I am taking her to the doctor again tomorrow. Any help appreciated???

Answer:
It's very unlikely that you would transmit hsv that way. the virus requires a host cell in order to survive. Since there is no cell to infect in your ointment, it shoudln't survive there.

There are several types of rashes that resemble herpes that occur in infants diaper areas. For example, impetigo blisters or sometimes forms lesions that look a lot like a herpes outbreak. Since it's a bacterial infection, no amount of pawpaw would heal it. It requires an antibiotic ointment or sometimes, for recurrent infection or infections that do not respond to topical treatment, oral antibiotics might be used.

I would definately go with your doctor on this one. If you are still concerned, you can ask your doctor to swab and culture the lesions. Especially if there are still some fresh lesions.

Really though, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for your response hsv2 mum.
I know its sounds bacterial but honestly they look like herpes lesions to me. I just wonder if I accidetally infected her.
I dont just have outbreaks every now and then. I have them all the time. Its a matter of keeping them to a minimum.
I had to see many doctors and had 2 neagtive swabs beofre it was finally detected. I knew I had it but no doctor believed me.
I made myself sick last night..I had an awful bellyache and headache. I just cannot stop thinking aboiut it. I am going to the gp today but I am going to try and get an appmt with a pediatrician.
Thanks again
I feel a little better
