HSV1 cold sores, contagious
Question: Anyone confused as to how to prevent it from kissing? Oral sex I understand. If someone gets cold sores, when can you or cannot kiss them? There's no way to protect yourself besides not kissing at all. In the prodome stage you are very contagious. How long after the blister has healed is ok to kiss your partner? Personally I couldn't unless I was totally healed. Answer: If I had oral herpes and were going through an outbreak I wouldn't kiss my partner until the outbreak was gone. Being totally healed in my opinion would be everything looking and feeling as if it were back to normal. What has your partner said about all of this? Angela  Answer: My partner doesn't care if I get them and even if I have an outbreak would be there to support me. Good or bad that's what relationships/love are about. It is scary out there ya know. We talk about protecting partners but ya can't when it comes to kissing, UNLESS you are having an outbreak. What I read the most contagious aspect of cold sores is the prodrome stage. Thanks for replying. Answer: If your partner has had oral herpes for awhile, she knows the tingling associated with prodrome. If you really are concerned about contracting (and you're sure you don't already carry HSV-1 orally which 60% of us do), she can opt to take Valtrex suppressively. But, that's a decision for the two of you to make. By the time we are in our fifties, between 80-90% of us have oral herpes. Most of the time, you acquired it in childhood, had a couple of fever blisters or cold sores when you were very small, and then the virus goes dormant. So, by the time you're an adult, you aren't experiencing outbreaks and don't remember ever having one. You could put the issue into a different light with a Herpes Select IgG Type specific bloodtest. If negative, take precautions. If positive, you're concerned for no reason. :) Answer: . If negative, take precautions. If positive, you're concerned for no reason. :) actually positive or not there is reason to be concerned. It is still possible to contract genital herpes if you have oral yourself. It is a small chance according to documents posted on this and medical sites. Answer: What about Asymptomatic HSV-1 Shedding? I do not recall any outbreaks, did the test simply because my girlfriend asked me (and left me later). I did the full STD testing and here is the only test that I came out positive for - HSV Type 1-Specific Ab, IgG with the value of 4.7. Am I reading this post correctly that me and my partner had nothing to worry about? Thanks. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
