I have found Genesil effective in reducing severity and speeding recovery of occurences. If applied early, often can prevent the occurence of sores. I would say that for me it is more effective than Acylovir.

I also use chorophor if an occurence does make it to the sore stage. While I am concerned that the price does not reflect the contents (it's active ingredient is copper sulphate), it does seem to be effective in clearing the sore very quickly (stings a bit though).
