My angst....I will NEVER take meds again. SCREW THEM!
Question:  Recently, I started to have an outbreak....the first in months (like 6) since I got back on lysine and what not. SO...I started to take Acyclovir at the onset of the outbreak (tingling...feeling of heaviness "down there" etc.) It seemed to go away, right away. I was all smug (against my lovely little herpes virus!) and feeling pretty positive. Stopped taking the meds. As of yesterday, the "heaviness and tingling" started to come back. I can feel an outbreak starting again. (along with my period...sigh!) I am so upset and frustrated. What is the point of taking an antiviral for 7 days? Making my tummy feel all crappy? Makes me have weird things break out around my mouth (little hard bumps....ALWAYS when I take this shit.) Then I always feel as though I am in a perpetual prodomme state. I migth not have active lesions, but the tingling and heavy feeling are always there....a "rawness" if you will, and some itching. But never a full blown outbreak. I would rather HAVE a damn outbreak, ride it out....THEN NOT HAVE ONE FOR ANOTHER 6 MONTHS?!?! Rather than every month FEEL as though I am on the verge of one (and only when I take these MEDS!) Same thing happens with Valtrex. And I will tell you, this puts one HELLUVA DAMPER on my sex life. It freakin' sucks. I say "Mutha FXXK acyclovir" (and Valtrex) and all that crap. For those it works on, Great. But for me, it is just not happening. And I am tired of putting this crap in my system, only to have it fail me. It is almost like the antiviral CAUSES me to have an outbreak....or prodomme symptoms. It is weird. And just not worth it. has anyone else had this happen to them? Another thing too, I need to get back to my old eating habits. In past, I ELIMINATED sugars, starches and white flour from my diet. (a sort of modified atkins diet, but I believe in going overkill on veggies and fruit with my meat...he he he!) I felt AWESOME...AND....NEVER HAD OUTBREAKS! EVER. AND I ATE NUTS...yep...ate all the nuts I could (ahem...AHAHAHAHAHA!) but seriously....I know many folks on here say eating almonds and peanuts causes them OB's...NEVER for me. (probably all the veggies and meats I ate counteracted the effects of nuts!) Since I had the baby...I am the complete OPPOSITE. Breads...pastas....sweets....bleech. I am addicted. I need to get back on track with my eating again. See what happens. BUT in the meantime, I am not wasting ANYMORE time with the meds. Stupid . So...I say, Bring it on herpes....I am sure I am going to have a vicious outbreak.....I am just going to have to deal with it. Answer: As you,I too have not had any good results with Acyclovir or Valtrex. Is there really such a thing as a "viral resistant strain"? I read a lot of posts about next to none symptoms...hardly any ob's..or ob's so mild they are no big concern.I got the the short end of the stick.. a insanely active strand that seems to have invunrability to antivirals.. constant predomes...my reward for been a "good guy'..a faithful mate in a monogamous relationship. Only thing to do is focus on other interests in life...forget about sexual relationships the way they used to be.And hope that one day soon there will be some joyous news that life can return to a once "normal" state. Sorry to be so negative...if I just had 1 ob every 6 months and no predomes inbetween it would be not so much of a problem. Answer: You know what is so strange? I NEVER had bad outbreaks before. NADA. Nothing. Zip. Occasionally a tingle and maybe one small teeny bump. That was it. Gone in DAYS. When I was pregnant....around december of 2005, I had the WORST OUTBREAK OF MY LIFE. I wanted to die. It was such a kick in the pants. like AH-HA!!! Now what!?! And it lasted weeks. From that point on, I would have one about once every other month....I would take valtrex at the first sign and it did seem to help some....but otherwise, I would just "ride it out". One thing that I think might have happened: I had sex right before I had the big outbreak. Maybe it broke open a lesion and spread it around the labial/vaginal area, hence the new and improved ultra fun outbreaks I have. (where as before it was pretty contained. ) I thank GOD I made my man wear a condom (we usually do anyways, but still, I am glad we did. (he is h free thus far.) I don't know...anyone got more info on this...(spreading it around via sex, making outbreaks worse?) I just can't understand why it has gotten so virulent now. It is weird. I am sorry you have such a bad strain too. Have you tried things like changing your diet and maybe lysine? I figure anything is worth a shot..... Answer: I've had oral HSV 1 for at least 8 years. Never got more than about one cold sore a year until last year. Since last winter, I've been getting cold sore outbreaks like CRRRAZY... one after another, hardly a week in between them. I haven't had any major changes or stress in my life, so I haven't a clue why the H got so virulent on me! Valtrex used to knock my cold sores dead, but in the last year it's been pretty ineffective when I use it "as needed." Seems to work better when I take it daily as a preventative measure. But of course, at $150 a month, it's hard to afford to do that all the time, and who wants to be a chronic pill-popper anyway! I never needed to before! If anyone has any insight as to what might cause H to flare up like this, I'd love to know! And if there's any treatment that works better than the usual pills, I'm all ears. I miss kissing my boyfriend. =( Answer: yeah, I seem to get more coldsores lately too, not bad ones, just annoying and I do not get to kiss my man much either. I do think in my case this is all due to stress...and the majority of the stress in my life is due to this virus!!! Hopefully, this will all subside again in the future. But for now, JEEEESUS, it is bad. (just got over a recent outbreak and it was a monster.) Along with your meds, you can try a vitamin supplement. Lysine, C, Bcomplex are what I normally take. Switch your diet around. Try to abstain from things like nuts, too much caffeine, OATMEAL (apparently oatmeal is really bad for causing outbreaks...who knew!? I didn't, as I sat and munched on some homemade oatmeal cookies!) Eat lots of nice lean meat and protein.....watch and see what happens. I know boosting my C intake helped when I had coldsores. (c boosts the immune system and the virus just seems to HATE IT too...) I hope that helps a bit. Also try cleaning the cold sores with good ole fashioned hydrogen peroxide. If nothing else, it will clean the sores out really good. If you lips get chapped be sure to use a nice soothing lip balm. I use caramex. Some people say this stuff is bad (i am not sure why though) but it has always helped me! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
