How many children can I have??

Question:
First of all, hello to everyone reading my post......... Now I have always been a person who has wanted a lot of children, so my question is does having genitial herpes effect the number of children that I can have after I have already been infected? And is it always recommended that I have a c-section even if there are not any visible sores?

Answer:
Having herpes does not in any way effect the amount of children you can have. It is also extremely rare, to pass it onto your baby even if you have outbreaks while pregnant. (less than 3 % I believe). It is really only dangerous, if you contract herpes for the first time, while you are pregnant, especially in the last 3 months of pregnancy.

You will pass on natural immunity (antibodies) to your babies for herpes which is good. Also because of this, it is even extremely rare to infect a baby even if you have a lesion at the time of birth and have a natural vaginal birth. Most doctors will recommend a c-sect, only, if you have an active lession while in labor. Some countries, like The Netherland, have stopped doing routine c-sections for women with herpes at all, and the infection rate in babies has not gone up at all.

You can also go on supression therapy with an Acylovir drug your last month of pregnancy, to help avoid an infection at that time. It has been prescribed for many years without any harmful side effects to the baby.
So, don't worry.

Answer:
I only agree with the number of children - have on and then decide...

ne may be too many!! :D

As for childbirth - I posted my opinion under the "Genital herpes on the lips in pregnancy" thread.

Yes, you pass antibodies to your unborn child - you do not give the child HSV in utero - you can however infect them topically. While rare, it's not a chance I will take with my children.

So, don't worry. Please read Black Orchid's Story - I posted it sticky....
