does the Valtrax work well

Question:
I've been with the guy who gave me herpes for a few years we just broke up and I get breakouts a lot still, they said it would be less over the years but not for me. So now I want to take a once a day drug so I can be normal for a while. This once or twice a month breakout thing has been going on for years so I need to do something about it I just want to be able to date. Does any one know if it works or what does I use Acyclovir now but thats just for during the breakouts and it works well to get rid of them but still. I think its called Valtrax there are commercials about it all the time.

Answer:
it helps suppress the outbreaks, so you shouldnt have them as often.
where you taking ANYTHING during the years you have had this daily? or just the acyclovir during the ob?

Answer:
I was intentionally infected by a BF 15 years ago. I had infrequent outbreaks of 1-3 times per year for most of my life. I began taking Valtrex two years ago to help shorten/avoid outbreaks. The dosage was 1 tablet twice a day for three days as soon as I noticed an outbreak coming on (itching/tingling).
It worked wonders for the first year but I find my outbreaks are becoming more frequent now! Almost every menstrual cycle brings an outbreak on and I was taking my very expensive Valtrex round back to back. The Valtrex supressed the virus but as soon as the round of meds was complete the virus was back. Valtrex is hard on the liver and kidneys and the manufacturer claims to have no knowledge of what happens after a year of treatment  I am quite convinced that Valtrex has worsened my condition over time and that the virus is becoming resistant to the treatment. Valtrex did shorten the length of my out breaks but they come with greater frequency 1 year after beginning the treatment.
The side effects of Valtrex I hate most are the headaches, hair loss and joint pain, also the depression/aggression. Couple all that with the complications you don't notice like damage to your natural immune system, kidney and liver damage and of course the eventual resistance to the drug makes the virus stronger.
Good luck with whatever you decide, the Valtrex was a godsend for the first year.

Anyway, I have decided to quit Valtrex (after taking $80 worth in the past month alone and still having breakouts as soon as I stop the drug) and really follow the high lysine diet and I have been taking 100mg Zinc twice a day as well as 500mg L-lysine supplement twice daily. I also take B-complex, primrose oil, 1000 IU vitamin E, and 1000mg vitamin C daily.

I noticed the twice daily zinc and lysine has helped already! I was very uncomfortable with an open sore yesterday but my skin is feeling much better, though I notice my lymph glands are swollen and tender at the moment. I'm staying home and toughing it out, I will have to make some lifestyle changes but it's worth it if it helps.

You can pass this virus on even if you aren't having an outbreak so it is important to inform your potential lovers of your condition. Condoms can't protect against the disease if the condom doesn't cover the affected area. PLEASE TELL BEFORE YOU HAVE SEX, its not fair to decide for someone if it's OK to infect them.
