Nutrition

Question:
So I have done some research and found that the best thigns to avoid if you want to deter from an ob are: nuts, popcorn, corn, chocolate, rice, red wine and processed cheese. So, I have decided to cut out these things from my diet and see what happens. I have also tried to start eating healthier foods and shop for more organic products. I haven't started exercising (yet! I start today, wish me luck, haha) but plan on it and try to get enough sleep.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I really want to be healthier all around because herpes has made me realize how well I need to treat myself, not just to subside obs but in general as well.

Thanks!

Answer:
I avoid those trigger foods too. No chocolate, nuts, corn, legumes, stay away from donuts and cake and coffee and soda. . . I started taking Lysine, vitamin c with bioflavanoids, calcium with vitamin d, and vitamin e.

Someone on a list I found suggested that artificial sweeteners are a trigger for some people.

I have had one constant outbreak for 1 1/2 months now so the gym is out but just calming down about this is helping. I'm taking acyclovir now 2x a day and it works well for me. I have heard that not everyone has the same triggers or responses to meds etc. I came down with pneumonia in the middle of this so my immune system is really under fire and might be why this is taking so long.

Answer:
Oh I thought I should mention that on line I found that we should avoid foods high in Arginine and look for those that are higher in Lysine. There are tables available on line that show the ratios.

The downside is this is a delicate balance.

Check Argine vs. Lysine

Answer:
My staple diet is rice... but I don't have that many outbreaks? Maybe 3 to 4 OBs a year... one of which will last quite long (2-4 weeks) the others last about 3 days...

I take valtrex whenever there is an OB and also apply the acyclovir cream. But the trick is to take the meds and apply the cream at the very first sign or whenever I feel the tingling... otherwise it's not so effective...

.. 3 or 4 outbreaks a year is a lot, I was like that when I first got H, glad I'm not having that many now.
