PLEASE HELP ME! Suppression during conception & pregnancy? or risk trnsmitng2 husband

Question:
HELP! I was diagnosed with HSVII about 4 or 5 months ago. My husband is HSV negative (so far) and I have been taking suppressive Acyclovir 800mg/day for the past...2 or 3 months? I don't want to transmit the virus to my husband but we want to conceive our second child (I had my first long before I was dignosed) can I take Acyclovir during conception and throughout my pregnancy? Or should I stop? If I stop, I may endanger my husband and risk infecting him, if I don't I could harm my baby..or is it safe? HAs anyone taken it in their pregnancy? If so, what was the outcome? or if I should stop can I stop cold turkey or do I nead to "wean?" PLEASE HELP ME!

Answer:
The best thing is to talk to your obgyn and see what they say. Based upon stuff I have read on this site suppressive therapy is used for pregnant women especially closer to delivery. You definitely don't want to have a vaginal delivery during an ob.

No I don't believe you need to wean yourself off of suppressive therapy. I've read over my medical information sheet and nothing is mentioned that indicates a need to do that.

I have read that some women have many more ob's during pregnancy due to hormone fluctuations. But everyone is different and that may not happen to you. Pretty much the same as my friend having a 15 minute labor and me having 15 hours of labor - we are all unique.

On the upside you couldn't pick a better time to get as healthy as humanly possible because a healthy immune system is the best thing you can do for yourself and contributes to you having an ultra healthy baby.

Best wishes. ;-)
