Hpv Vaccine
Question: I was just watching NBC news & I think they said that the HPV vaccine is now available for women who do not suffer from HPV. Any body saw it? That would be good news!:) Answer: I've only heard that it is available for women who are uninfected. It is to prevent infections that can become cancerous. My obgyn told me that many of us come into contact with the virus when we are young and our immune system deals with it. He refuses to give the vaccine to me because he says I'm too old. I don't know if this is right because they still test me and are using a new method with a giant pipe cleaner instead of the spatula thing. He told me I'm negative. Answer: i have hpv and my doctor told me that after we are all done going in and taking cells out i might still be a candidate for the vaccine Answer: mbrauneis - That would be good news. There are numerous strains of hpv and the vaccine is supposed to be effective against several that cause cancer. If you can get the vaccine then you would be protected against the other strains. How long will it take for them to know if your procedures eradicated the cancerous cells? Will you need to have annual bloodtests etc to know that it is gone or do they have another method? Answer: The vaccine was invented in Australia and the government are currently running a massive campaign about this, encouraging women to vaccinate: http://www.health.gov.au/cervicalcancer Answer: right now i'm waiting about 8 more weeks before i go in for another pap to make sure it isn't showing up abnormal anymore then i guess i'll start asking my doctor some more questions about the vaccine. i hope i can still get it so i don't have to worry about other strains of hpv. Answer: mbrauneis - I hope you continue to get good news and that the vaccine is a viable option for you. you've been through a lot. let us know how things turn out. :) Answer: I also have HPV and I am currently taking the Guardisil shots(1 more to go). My paps within the last 3 years have been normal and my gyn said it would be a good option for me to take the vaccine because it would protect me from other, possibly more dangerous strains of HPV. Answer: I thought I was the only one who had HPV and HSV1. If you want to talk, I am here for you. I just had the LEEP procedure done for HPV. So far, so good, the pap is normal, but I have to go for paps every 6 months because the virus will always be in our system. I will say a prayer for all of us. Hang in there!
