risks of spreading HSV to my infant daughter

Question:

Hello,

I have been diagnosed with Herpes and I have a 9 week old daughter. I am really nervous about passing this horrible disease to my young daughter. I have my outbreaks on the back of my forearm, which baffles my doctors. I have had HSV for about 8 years and just recently have diagnosed. I am taking Valtrex and I have had a couple outbreaks since my daughter was born. I always wears long sleeves and take my Valtrex. I don't know if I will ever be able to wear short sleeves again which is difficult because I love being outside, but it is way too hot for me now. I am scared to death to spread this disease to her. What are the chances of her contracting it from me through normal every day contact? Has anyone had an infant child with HSV on their arm?

Thanks

Answer:
just be vigilant as regards to your arm, no one can give your the chances, as we can shed the virus at any time and not know it.

as long as you dont go rubbing your arm all over your daughter, the risk will be low.

Answer:
well you can wear short sleeves, just be very carefull. given time, it will become second nature, to hold her with your other arm(if its only 1)
or tell her that, thats daddys bad spot and it hurts when she/any one touches you there, and she will learn not to touch your forearms.

I always keep it covered and I wash my hands at least 15 times a day if not more!

Answer:
Cricket, I think waxed thought you were a man when she referenced about "daddy's" bad spot. Its hard to tell sometimes by the posts ya know?
