management of herpes, and reducing the risk

Question:
First i would like to give you all a little bit of my background so you dont think im pulling this out of my butt.

Im a College grad in the Biotech field. dealt with pathogen elimination and life cycles, and management in too many classes.

And seeing as the real only way to reduce the possibility of transmission down to 0 percent, would be to just make sure that all viral shedding would be eliminated before any contact was initiated.

Problem areas would obviously be around the penis/vagina and pelvic regions.

The only easy to obtain, and cheap Virucidal substances that dont require a lot of management and maintenence are ethanol (95-100% alcohol content) and Iodine. A commercially available product which would require a bit more searching would be a scientific bactercidal/virucidal soap... which comes usually by the gallon... a company such as Sigma Chemical Co would carry this. and would be much easier on the skin and less messy than iodine (yellow/brown staining... yuck)

Using a thorough but gentle massaging method to apply the iodine/ethanol/soap to the skin, rinse off lightly with water, the areas will be completely rid of living viral sheds, and as long as no rough application was used while cleansing the area no damage to the skin would have occurred to release more virus.

the use of Nonoxyl-9 lubricated condoms (many brans available including trojan) will eliminate any active virus particles in the woman's natural lubricant, and effectively reduce the overall risk to next to zero (while during the non symptomatic phase)

although this may seem like a lot of work, and awkward if its just someone who you are casually dating, but for you couples who are in love... and are worried about your partner contracting it when you arent experiencing symptoms, this may help.

Answer:
Matt, you're a star! Thanks for this information! I have been using iodine myself (don't know ANYTHING about Biotech) - it's something I always have in the house. I have used it only when I have an outbreak and haven't suggested it to anyone else (I posted some info in a topic called "Help for Herpes", under "Everything Herpes") since it stings like heck! .. and there's the staining too, of course. I didn't realize it would kill surface viral sheds while one is asymptomatic. Wow!

GREAT tip and very helpful information - thank you again.

It is difficult trying to find a co. that sells a bactericidal/virucidal suitable for human skin. I called Sigma Chemical Co. and others w/o suceess. Any suggestions?

I was dating a girl for 2 years, told her about it long before we ever had sex... and then she was fine with the risk and the ONLY protection we used was KY Plus (ky with nonoxyl-9)

We never messed around if I had an OB but if I wasn't having an OB, we had sex like ALL the time. 2-3 times a day almost every day for 2 years.

She never got it. (don't know if the KYplus had anything to do with it or not... maybe I don't shed, who knows)

Other relationships also, I used the KY Plus...

Then a few months ago I read or saw a news report that said the irritation factor of nonoxyl-9 made it MORE risky to use it then the virus killing benefit...

And that it was better just to use a lubricant without KY...

Anyone else have any research on this?
