30 weeks pregnant and having severe obs

Question:
Hi all! I love this forum everyone is so supportive and smart.

I've had H for 8 years (my partner does not.) So I am well read and informed about most aspects of this virus. I'm 30 wks pregnant (first baby/it's a girl!:D) and have had several ob (20 wks, 28 wks, and one now) secondary to hormone changes etc., during this pregnancy. I have already decided to have an elective c-section at 39weeks.

I don't want to take oral antiviral suppression meds, since I know I'm pretty much having a c-section and why expose my fetus to any drug, eventhough all the literature I've read suggests they are safe this late in pregnancy.

Soooo, my question is does anyone have any experience with using zovirax cream on the genitals while pregnant, I just want to be more comfortable during the ob over the next 9 weeks. I've never used it but am thinking of getting a prescription just to get these painful lesions under control.

Thank you in advance for you help.

Answer:
I'm extreamly new at this whole "h" thing (one month and counting). The zovirax that my OB/GYN prescribed helped a ton during my first outbreak. I wasn't pregnant when I had my initial outbreak (Congrats by-the-way :D) so I'm not sure about that aspect, but it sure helped things heal a little better. It said on the Rx that it may sting slightly when applied...I didn't experience any irritation, stinging, etc. when applied. Everybody's different though. And I'm not sure where I saw the posts, but I've heard that Epsom salts or the Aveeno Bath Powder/Salts (I think) can help soothe things in the area.

Hope this helps...best wishes! Stay cool...summer pregnancies can be brutal (that I experienced first hand our late Sept baby will be two).

Answer:
Congrats on the new baby! How exciting.

I too, do not know much about this cream. I did take Valtrex during my pregnancy because I went from havnig ZERO outbreaks to HORRIFIC outbreaks. So I would take Valtrex and it did help slightly with the outbreaks (although I had weird side effects.)

So I wish I could give info on this topical treatment. It shouldn't affect the baby/pregnancy, just be careful using it.

I too, opted for a csection. Even if I didn't HAVE herpes , I am incapable of Vaginal birth (proven with my older child). Contracting herpes was the icing on the cake with the second child. It was great, (compared to having the baby the first time, which was scary and almost killed both the child and myself) The Csection was fine. My docs were great. The hardest part for me was the epidural. Apparently I have a very muscular back (I like working out alot) so they had a hard time inserting the epidural needle. BUT...once you are all good and numb, you are wide awake and aware of what is going on, and it is AMAZING and FACINATING all at the same time. And when you see your baby girls' perfect little face, wow....breathtaking.

So now worries my dear!! Congrats and good luck!! I wish you the easiest of deliveries as well as a healthy baby who loves to sleep through the night! (ahahahaha, wishful thinking I know, but ya never know!)
