how many people really have genital herpes with no symptoms?
Question: I am just wondering how many people get herpes from someone who really has no symptoms and never has... obviously you would have to get it from someone you really trust to know this for certain cause I am sure many people lie about it.. Answer: Totally agree. Answer: I dont understand what you mean? I got HSV and Im still clueless as to how I got the virus? I told all 3 people I have slept with, and to this day neither of them have said they have it, or went to get checked, and two of the three I have been intimate with after being diagnosed...I sometime really believe I just got it from no where!! I had a complete STD blood work up done in Dec'05, a year later Dec'06 I was due for my annual STD work up, in Mar '07 I was diagnosed with HSV. So somewhere within a year I contracted the virus. My doctor was surprised, being a year ago I tested neg for HIV, HSV, and everything else. Im really clueless. I didnt know you could get HSV with a condom, due to shedding. I believe one of the three have the virus and dont know it, and were shedding and thats how I got it. I have been honest and informed the 3 individuals and another person, and they all except one, still want to be intimate with me, I was shocked....I look at it like I did my part and disclosed, so if you get it, you cant be mad at me, I did let you know the possible risk. I take valtrex (500mg) daily, and Lysine (1000mg) daily, workout 5 days a week and try to eat healthy, so I do my best. I hope maybe one day I will find out who gave this to me. Answer: I have had HSV2 since Nov. 06 and have never had an outbreak. My N.D. (naturopathic doctor) told me that I could probably avoid ever having one if I take care of myself. She also told me that my virus is dormant and she didn't think it was possible for me to spread it Even if I do have shedding it is probably really minimal. From what I have read, you shed more if you have more outbreaks, and you shed more from the areas where you had previous outbreaks. If I have none...then I think that would make shedding rare for me. I will still tell the people I am intimate with from now on....but sometimes i feel like I don't even have it. I have no idea who I got it from. Anyone know if this is true? d84 ~ I hope you never get an outbreak. Answer: My doctor did tell me that she thought it was not possible for me to spread my virus. However this is a different kind of dr we're talking about who used different technology. As far as the shedding statistis, that is what I have inferred from what I have read about it. This is a good link. http://www.herpes.org.uk/faq.html#18 Answer: my boyfriend never knew he had this, never had an outbreak and we were together for almost 3 years having sex daily at the time when I got this light red rash down below everywhere. we didnt know what it was and had sex when i first noticed the rash and then a few days later he got a tiny dot on his penis. We got tested, he had it and never knew, and then later I tested positive for it. Never looked typical, still never has. That was 2 years ago. Since then I have had this continuous rash never leaving my skin for almost 2 full years, doctors were baffled. He, to this day has only had 1 additonal dot, not a lesion, not a blister, just a tiny dot in the same spot he got one (from being reinfected with new virus from me, when I contracted it from him asymptomatically) and it went away within 2 days. He has never had another symptom ever and those 2 tiny dots, that could have been mistaken for being nothing at all due to their tiny size and non raised characterisitic. But never did he or any prior partners (he'd only had 2 long term g/f for a few years each) ever had any signs or symptoms ever, to this day. And he had never before until i caught it from him(while he had no idea he had it or was contagious) and when my symptoms were active he got reinfected with the virus, causing the tiny dot on his skin. Its very possible. Statistics I read about from my doctor show over 50% of all people infected with HSV genitally have no clue they have it, havent had symptoms and may never in the future either. Its way more common than people think to truly not know. Answer: . I'm really concerned about giving it to somebody else, and although I use condoms I guess that doesn't help. So has anybody else been dormit for years and still spread it? Answer: tiredofthis, check out My3rdCharm's comment in this thread... Her husband has oral hsv1 and was dormant for 18 years and still somehow passed it on to her genitally, and then he managed to catch it back genitally... and that was after being with his wife for 11 years with no problems... Every time I read someone's story it just reinforces that you unfortunately have to ALWAYS assume there is some risk that you are contagious. I mean, who would have thought... *The virus can be dormant (18 years - wow), but still active... *and that you can catch your own strain back in a different location... including catching genital HSV1 even if you already have oral HSV1 (which is supposed to be rare, but in the H world rare happens).
