Doctor won't prescribe me anything...?
Question: When I spoke to my doctor on the phone the other day, I asked about suppressants like Valtrex and so forth. I was told it was "pointless" for me to take anything because my outbreaks are not external and I can't tell when I'm having them. ... this confuses me immensely, because every ad I have seen on TV for these drugs and from some of the posts I have read in the forum. I thought these drugs were intended to reduce the risk of passing this on to a partner. Any insight about this? Answer: Some docs feel it's a waste, and others don't. Based on what I've read on the forums, it pretty much seems the docs either blindly prescribe Valtrex or take the complete opposite view and are reluctant to discuss it... neither of which is probably the best thing to do. Based on clinical research Valtrex does reduce your risk of passing H onto a partner by about half (as measured by seroconversion). Did you tell your doc that passing it on to a partner was your main concern? She probably doesn't think you need it simply for outbreaks that apparently don't bother you... maybe she doesn't realize you want it for another purpose. Answer: I told my doctor that I needed it to because my man doesnt have it.She is pretty dumb when it comes to HSV but she was able to give me a script. Just tell them what you want it for.Even if you dont have a mate right now, lie. Its your health, body and money so I dont see what the big deal is.Its not like its Valium,Vicodin or anything like that. Answer: Thank you so much for the responses. I'll be making a call to her Monday, and if all else fails I guess I'll make a call to my general practitioner. I'm just amazed its my gynecologist trying to tell me medication is "pointless". Answer: Try telling her that paying her is "pointless".See what kind of response you get. Answer: Try telling her that paying her is "pointless".See what kind of response you get. Hahahahhaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!! Answer: lmao kurious!!!! Answer: Try telling her that paying her is "pointless".See what kind of response you get. I have a feeling I will get the "insolent H patient" fee on top of everything else she's billing me for. Answer: I had that same convo with my doc... and then decided not to take any meds,... the thing with medication... is you body can build a tolerance for it... and when you later have an outbreak... it may not work to heal you quicker...
