if i have hsv-1 orally, can i get it genitally as well?

Question:
Hi guys, i'm pretty new to this, and I was hoping one of you could help me out.

I contracted HSV-1 from my girl friend recently. She has it genitally, and now i have it orally. It doesn't bother me too much, I love her and i'm not going to let this get between us. It's just a virus. but I definitely feel a little bit confused about some of the information out there.

Here is my question: even though we have the same virus, is it possible for us to reinfect each other in different locations?

If she has it genitally, and I have it orally, is it possible for me to give it to her orally as well, or for her to give it to me genitally if she was to go down on me? I asked my doctor about this, and she said no, but some of the information I've come across seems to suggest otherwise. Specifically, some posts I've seen here have talked about transferring oral HSV-1 to one's own genitals, by touching the lips and then urinating, or whatever. I imagine that the principle is the same, you know?

So can we possibly reinfect each other? Is there anyone out there who has been in a similar situation? How do couples with HSV-1 maintain intimacy without infecting each other all over?

Sorry if this was confusing, it's just something that's been on my mind lately... Thanks for your help.

Answer:
Yes and yes. It is even possible for you too spread it from your mouth to other parts of your body is you touch an active legion and touch another part of your body.

Aviod touching the legion when active and aviod sexual contact during outbreaks. Also leave a week after the ourbreak has healed before sexual contact.

Take vitamin c with blioflavinoids and zinc gluconate to keep your immune system strong. No outbreak means very little risk of infection in another area.

The good news is that you both have HSV-1 and due to that fact you will both be producing HSV-l antibodies. Risk of reinfection is reduced by 50%.

Hope this helps.
