oral HSV-2

Question:
anyone have this? I have genital herpes.... newly diagnosed... and i'm afraid i might have gotten it on my mouth... which is tingling, but it might be in my head....

anyone have this?
Is is like oral HSV-1?
Is is as contagious as HSV-1 cold sores?
should I avoid kissing anyone?..... ever?

it's just a scary thought

wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this....

Answer:
I have type 2 orally, but I'm still new at all this so I don't have a ton of answers. From what I understand, the two types are equally contagous during an outbreak. As far as shedding, the "37 Herpes Facts You Need to Know" pamphlet says that if you have H in an area that it's not normally attracted to (oral type 2 would be an example) then the shedding is much lower. It says that type 2 oral shedding occurs 1% of days. And this is without suppressive therapy. This actually makes me quite happy! :D

As far as intimacy... of course you can have it!!!! *Always* tell a partner before possibly exposing them. Yes, that includes kissing. Sucky, but so goes life. Make sure that you do your research. The numbers are actually quite promising. If you can afford daily suppressive therapy, that will lower the chances of them getting it even further. Of course, don't kiss or anything if you're having an outbreak. it's just so very risky.

If you're really nervous about telling new people, but still want to have something (love, lust, etc) then you might want to look into one of the dating sites for people with STD's. You could find someone with type 2 and then neither of you have to worry about passing it on.
