HSV or canker sores or whatever?

Question:
I've had herpes since 2000. I had recurring outbreaks, genitally, to the point where my doctor put me on daily medication. I've had zero outbreaks since.

All of a sudden, I began to have sores in mouth around November, 2005. I should say that I was under ENORMOUS stress at the time. My boss, to put it mildly, was an absolute lunatic. My mother was also getting increasingly worse and I was in Germany.

I'm surprised that, if it is herpes, it didn't do this earlier. At my last cleaning, the dentist looked them over and said I had apthous ulcers. He suggested going to my doctor...who suggested going back to my dentist.

Suggestions?

Answer:
what are apthous ulcers????? canker sores are not herpes. are you rinsing with mouthwash? i would see my doctor regarding this.

Answer:
Apthous ulcers are canker sores, not herpes. For years I thought I had oral herpes (since I was a teenager) and was extremely cautious about kissing people, etc. I didn't want anybody to catch it from me. Turns out those were just apthous ulcers and not contagious. Just like you, I get them when I am really stressed or physically run down, which is part of the reason I thought they were herpes.

What I do when I get them is dip a Q-tip in hydrogen peroxide and dab it on the ulcer in the morning and at night and they usually go away in 2-3 days rather than 7 -10 when I don't do this.

I should have mentioned that one other dentist thought they might be herpes. He was German and didn't actually offer to test them. I'm probably among the large number of people who have the virus orally but it surprised me that nothing like that would happen for 50+ years and then.....BAM!

Due to the nature of the outbreaks I do tend to think they're canker sores and will try to get SOMEONE to test the damned things. I'll also give your HP a try.
