Can anyone help with some questions for me?

Question:
I'm Mike and I've been recently diaganose with HSV 1 and . I don't know how i got this at all. I have been very carefully with everything, at least i thought i was. HSV landed me in the hospital for a week Approx. 1 month ago. I have many questions and ofcourse most doctors don't know the answers to them. I turn to everyone here. Which i apperciate for Angie deeply for , for finding this website. My questions sate as follows:

1. If i'm on valtrex and my partner is on nothing, how come i'm geting outbreaks still? And my partner has no signs of anything except for a cold sore?

2. How does one become less paranoid like myself by always looking for a sore and being concern of passing it to someone else?(Acting like being in a Bubble)

If no one can answer directly i understand, but please if you have any input or suggestions towards my questions i am all ears. thank you and deeply apperciate.

Answer:
1) cold sores are herpes, so infact you are BOTH having outbreaks.~~~~ also your herpes can affect each other, so you might be causing each other to be having the outbreaks.

2) over time you will just do things by habbit, and not think about it. but infact everone should be inspecting there areas and such, for bumps so dont think of being paranoid but being prepared... cause if you spot one you can take the meds and nip it in the butt before it becomes a big issue. the bubble aspect, ok that might be a bit overkill, but yes you do need to think about others~just simple things like washing your hands, not sharing things etc. you dont need to walk around with a gas mask and gloves, in a plastic suit. youd prob catch more things on the bars of public transportation more then spreading herpes by accident

Good advice from waxed ;)

You also might look at your diet. There's a column to the left of this forum page with all kinds of info that can help. I wish I knew how to cut and paste on this thing to place a link, but I don't know how, sorry. Anyway, There's info on how certain foods and alcohol can trigger outbreaks.

There's a pamphlet with good advice too, maybe Shenda can send it to you to download and read.

It's natural to have some anxiety with this, especially in the begining....Try not to let it rule your life. The more you learn about the virus the better you will feel.

Take Care and try to relax a bit. ;)

Answer:
Thank you again...well we are relieved that Mike will not live in a bubble :)
but this is what I want to say .. I get cold sores but no "genital" outbreak... Mike gets both the cold sores and genital outbreaks... There is where we are really confused. He is on medication, I'm not...We searched the website and can't find anything that will help us. So it falls down as more of a curious thing than anything..
thanks again
