HSV 1 and or 2 Question

Question:
okay so my question is can you get one and two in the same place.

Like most say they were exposed to cold sores or better known back then mostly as Fever Blisters. So 22 years ago I was admitted to the hospital. I am told by my mother I had a "fever blister" on my mouth, and picked it and rubbed my eye. My eye was horrible and messed up my whole eye and swelled it shut. My fever blister was half around my mouth.

Okay so I have never had any problems with this growing up since the week I was in the hospital. I was 5 then. I am now 27. So I have requested my medical records to see if they say it was something different.

So now my bf kisses me when he didn't realize he had a cold sore coming on. Since then I have had outbreaks.

I am wondering can you say have HSV 1 from when you were a child, have no outbreaks and then have someone kiss you with HSV 2 and infect you so you will have both. I am not "schooled" on cold sores as I have mentioned before.

Trying to find out if the original really wasn't what my mom thinks it was since I went 22 years without no problem then being infected by my boyfriend now having cold sores. Can you have both types in one area?

Sorry if this is confusing.

Answer:
I've asked that question myself but can't recall getting a straight answer.

Viruses can mutate and become many different strains. I understand that it is possible to get re-infected which can cause an ob. This is one of the main reasons people say to avoid contact during ob's even if both partners have it (outside of the fact that it could be painful).

Answer:
Thanks, yeah no one seems to be able to answer if you can get both types say as cold sores or both types on your genitals. Hmm... Really weird.

Answer:
My doctor told me you can get HSV1 on your genitals but you can't get HSV2 orally.....

Answer:
Doctors now see more GHSV1 in the genital area and GHSV2 on the mouth area due to oral sex pratices - I've heard alot of this lately -

Answer:
But can you get HSV1 and 2 genitally or HSV1 and 2 Orally?

Like what if I had HSV1 orally from when I was younger, had no problems but boyfriend had say HSV2 orally and kissed me and gave me cold sores. can I be infected with both in one place?

Answer:
I would imagine anything is possible but my guess is that to prove this you'd need to have confirmed swab cultures of both strands in one location and how many dr's are going to cooperate for this?

I know that both strands can be transmitted to either oral or genital.

Answer:
My doctor told me you can get HSV1 on your genitals but you can't get HSV2 orally..... I have HSV2 orally--------Proven through a cultured lesion on my lip a few months ago.
