sex between 2 same hsv partners!!!

Question:
Now i have a question... if 2 same hsv partners have unprotected sex and happen to spread the virus to one another, even though the other person alredy has it, is it possible that the virus can mutate??????

Answer:
Viral mutations are common, but in reference to HSV, it not be worried about. Mutations within viruses usually lead to increased resistances to certain chemicals or drugs and not a new virus with new effects. However, I am no genetic specialist.

Still, I would not worry about it. If you are still curious, try this site about HSV viral mutations.

http://aac.asm.org/cgi/content/full/44/6/1524

I read the results because I got curious myself and from what I understand (because it seems like it is written in another language) is that the mean of all tested strains for mutations by resistance to certain chemicals was less than one percent. I saw one strain that has 35%, but that was just one strain. Conclusion: nothing to stress about.

Hope this helps.

Answer:
I am no expert, just reading a lot about this. I did read somewhere that the virus can change inside one person and change inside the other person and thus, you can reinfect one another. I can't give a reference though. I remember it dinstinctly though because I am married and got it from my husband and so I thought it wasn't a big deal because at least I am with him and we can deal with it together. However, I read this and it really struck me that we still need to be as careful as possible.
